3 year old, neutered dog still humping

My 3 year old Cockapoo has been neutered since he was 7 months old.
Trouble is he still likes to get a little amorous with his bed! This usually happens straight after a walk. He will come in and go straight to his bed and hump it often resulting in a dramatic 'lipstick' moment!!!

Is this unusual? Surely he should have no sex drive left!

He's not at all interested in humping other dogs or anything other than his bed.

Any ideas? He is my first dog.

It's nothing to do with sex drive and everything to do with excitement levels, eustress/distress and displacement behaviours.

Why dogs hump.

I have a dog who gets amorous with a certain toy when he is successful at getting it from my other dog. It seems to be pure excitement as opposed to anything else.

As pp said, it's nothing to do with sex or hormones and is usually because of stress or excitement. Ours often starts to hump when he has excess energy. Maybe try walking for a bit longer, or having more off lead time during the walk to play fetch and really get some good exercise.

My female humps one of her toys, always the same toy, when she feels I've been ignoring her for more than the permitted 5 seconds.

She'll usually do it if I'm eating my dinner off a tray on my lap, something I do sometimes.

It's got nothing to do with sex drive, she's spayed, and everything to do with 'how dare you eat that and not give me any'. Sometimes she'll just sit and stare at me intently, which also doesn't get her any of my food. Humping is usually the next stage.

It just sounds like he is over excited. He must love his walks and be a happy bunny Smile

PS My terrier humps other dogs when he wants to show them who's boss. He was neutered 7 years ago.

My friends dog kept humping my dog after we’d been for a walk together and gone back to her place. Both fully grown entire males. My dog didn’t seem that bothered although she kept shooing hers away. My dog trainer said her dog was bullying my dog and we shouldn’t walk them together anymore. Bit awkward.

Our old dog reverted to doing this when our other dog died. It was obviously some manifestation of stress or misguided attempt at being the top dog in the family or anything (if alpha dogs are a thing he was so far down the alphabet they'd run out of letters bless him... one of life's followers). He was in love quite seriously with the electrician! Got really embarrassing trying to take him for walks with him mentally playing some kind of Barry White album in his head.

Stopped the second we got another dog - he needed a woman in his life to generally terrorise him, order him around and treat him like absolute crap!
