Dog suddenly not liking Astro turn agility area

Outside the Astro area he’s still flying over jumps and other obstacles and happy as Larry but inside, on the Astro, he barely moves.
Any ideas for how to get over this please?
Wet his paws?
Put wax on them?
Anything else?
TIA

We have artificial grass at home but it's long and soft. However, it does sound very different to walking on grass so it might not just be the texture your dog doesn't like.

Is it really short as I could imagine that might feel quite hard if you care to a sudden stop?

Would they give you a bit of time to get him used to the texture without the added complexity of jumps etc?

WBut for the last few months he’s been happy in there, this has come on suddenly.
We think it’s sunshine related somehow. But the Astro is not hot to touch. If it was, all the dogs would be refusing anyway wouldn’t they?

Has he slipped? Are there different noises inside? You can get a paw spray for show dogs to stop them slipping.

Thanks for the ideas but it’s an outside area and nothing is differnetbapart from the sun. He hasn’t slipped.

We think he might have got an electric shock somehow. he’s a Tibetan terrier; Could it be something in his coat texture?

I used paw wax yesterday but it made no difference. He stopped dead until we moved to the real grass then was running perfectly again. Once the Astro area was completely in the shade he was much happier in there so the sun, but not the heat as it was late evening sun, is definitely playing a part.

My step son got some nasty skin burns when sliding on Astro turf when playing football. It could be similar as happened to your dog which has put him off. Your vet might be able to recommend something to protect his paw pads.

My dog once got an irritated paw after running about on astroturf. There wasn't anything to see but he wouldn't leave it alone and ended up needing a cone on. It was the outdoor kind used for football so I just keep him off it now

Is there something about the way the light hits the Astro? My horse will spook at slightly lighter-coloured sand on the darker normal arena surface (yes, I am aware a Tibetan Terrier is not a horse, but they are, um, sort of similar Grin ).
