I think my puppy is ill :(

My puppy was fine yesterday and we did puppy class 7 - 8pm (he was VERY excited). He seemed ok overnight but this morning he seemed tired and just a bit lazy (normally he is an annoying nuisance whilst we do breakfast and getting everyone ready for the day. He gets trodden on, tries to steal peoples food, and generally makes us all laugh and swear). He ate very little of his breakfast but did go out for a walk seemingly happily enough with DH. Although DH did say he didn't try and jump all over everyone like he normally does. He didn't eat any lunch (although he did moither me for a bit of my toast as normal) and has been asleep ever since. It is now 15:30 and he isn't standing on the chair looking out the window to see DD come home like he does most days. He hasn't pestered me all day to play - he just seems really sleepy.
He is 5 months old and we do have a routine which involves him sleeping a fair bit in the day but normally his eyes open everytime my chair twitches but not today. I'll obviously take him to the vet if he doesn't perk up in a day or two or if he seems to be otherwise unwell. Tell me that puppies do sometimes have off days and reassure me please!

Was it his first session? He could just be completely shattered after the new stimulus?

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 04/05/2018 15:52

If this is his first class, my bet is he is just shattered after all the dogs, learning, smells, new environment etc etc and possibly still full from all the extra treats

If this is a different reaction to a previous puppy class, or if he starts seeming ill in ways beyond being tired / maybe a bit full into tomorrow I'd be a bit more concerned about him, but right now I'd be watching carefully without rushing to the vet.

FWIW my adult dog survived a house party and he slept almost continuously for 23 hours afterwards, with very little interest in food. He was as right as rain the day after that.

My two were always shattered after an exciting day so might just be that x

LaGattaNera · 04/05/2018 18:51

I bet he is knackered OP - see how he is tomorrow

He is all better! A big tea of chicken and rice last night and a good nights sleep and he seems all good today!
