Puppies being offered as raffle prizes?

I'm on a breed facebook page for Cockerpoos, people have found others offering puppies as raffle prizes - one is very local to me, one is about 50 miles away. Both people have clearly displayed their names, have this on their pages etc., its fairly easy to track them down on Google.

I know this is an offence under Scottish law but what about England, does anyone know if this is something the police could get involved with? Also the person near to me I know her employer, but I am just thinking how involved do I get? No one else seems to be doing anything other than saying how shocking it is. I know I could ring 101 but for which area, surely I can't call twice they'll think I am mad, should I just concentrate on the one local to me?

I was under the impression this was illegal too. Ring 101 and see what they say. Why not mention both raffles in one phone call?

Apparently this is not illegal in England and Wales, the police in one of the areas got back to me and said how frustrated they were, the RSCPA also refused to help. I left the matter of the one near me with our local dog warden, and the one further away with the police in that area, they said they'd do what they could.

Facebook does appear to have removed at least one of these, but I suspect that was organised to protect the person advertising it from backlash rather than out of any concern for animals.

And there was me under the impression that cockerpoo puppies were pricey and easily saleable, especially at this time of year! Surely they shouldn't need to be trying to get rid of one this way!

Seen loads of these recently. People are making their money by selling numbers at like £100 a number or 140 numbers at £10 each. Sadly not illegal here. Have seen one evil twat has three litters of three different breeds up for raffle at once!!

How could anyone do this?

I might raise it with my MP, he's a big dog lover; if its illegal in Scotland it would be great if the law could protect animals here too, in the same way. Anyone else up for that?

right I think that every arsehole going is jumping on the small cuddly dogs breeding wagon; public awareness is getting worse if anything not going up. People seem to think that a "puppy farm" is a farm with dogs in barns and that if they go to a residential address and there is one single puppy for sale, that's ok.

As a result I think there is literally a glut of puppies this year, and cockerpoos are one of the most popular dogs. However, those raffling I notice tend to be people who have raffled horses, cars, and wide range of dog breeds - I saw a Saluki on one of the cockerpoo people's pages, advertised a few months back.

It should be illegal, but like a lot of issues in animal welfare , it's probably not. I imagine reporting to FB is probably the most useful thing you can do :(

Bloody hell I thought winning a goldfish at the fair was crappy enough - takes animal cruelty and ignorance to another level.

I've never bought or even directly chosen any of the dogs in my life - they've been family dogs and PestDog belongs to a friend but I walk him 6-7 days a week, often feed him and always train him but draw the line at paying food / vets bills

As a result I think I'm just so far outside the researching where to buy a dog thing that I'm clueless. PestDog is a funny (non fashionable) mix so no Facebook groups for the mix or puppy farm production... I kind of want to stick my head in rye sand because there's nothing I can do about it

Lotteries and raffles are illegal without a licence surely?

The gambling commission website gives guidelines about advertising and promoting lotteries on social media and it appears to be illegal without a licence. It may be worth pursuing via this offence rather than animal welfare legislation.
