Vet Refused to show me my dogs x-rays

My vet refused to show me my dogs x-rays
He Became quite defensive when I asked if he could show me the x-Ray As I’ve paid for them, it’s not as if I was asking to take them away with me. My dog was diagnosed with
Anconeal process Elbow dysplasia.
What would you do in my situation, has anyone experienced this with their vet.

Never had a vet refuse to show me any diagnostics. What was his reason for not sharing? You could go to the practice manager and ask to see them / ask for an explanation.

He seemed very busy said he had patients waiting outside in waiting room to attend to,
He abruptly asked me if I’m a Neurologist
I said no... He then Abruptly said then what good is it to you, I was absolutely disgusted and socked considering I paid over £1000 for various tests and x-rays. Apparently my dog cannot be operated on as he has Weak brittle bones Not absorbing calcium and nutrients also red blood cell count is very low.

Is there any chance it could be a scam?

He’s a well known vet And was recommended to me by various people who Also take their dogs there.
I’m worried about my dog don’t know the outcome.

Does he work alone or is he in a practice where you could escalate it to someone else?

If you get a second opinion from another practice they will request all the notes and copies of diagnostics from the 1st vet. It would be very abnormal for them not to be provided and then you would have another opinion on the x-rays.
Asking you if you are a neurologist seems odd as being a radiologist or orthopod are the appropriate specialities.

We always show x-rays (I'm not a vet).

Of course the x-rays are of no USE to you. You are not the vet but they are of use to the vet when explaining an animals condition to a client.

He sounds unpleasant and arrogant. He absolutely should have showed you.

It is perfectly reasonable that it may not have been practical at the time. Our x-ray room is just off the main prep area and at busy times having members of the public come through isn't really possible but he should have made an alternative time to show you.

Either way you are paying a fortune so deserve much better customer care.

You have every right to see the X-rays and have the diagnosis and next steps explained to you. As it sounds like a complex case he should have factored this time into the appointment

That would put me off using those vets. No matter how busy my vets are they always take time to discuss and show the results to me.

Get a second opinion.We moved vets when moving country. Turned up at new vets and got a litany if stuff wrong with our previous healthy cat that needed treatment now! Contacted old vet and went to a new one: nothing wrong with the cat

Absolutely, I wonder if they did the x-rays too. I paid over £1000 the other day, vet was arrogant really rude and abrupt, as if I was standing there like a burden to him. It’s a private practice and he seemed really busy, but I’m a customer too Just like the ones who were waiting to see him, Just thought it was rather odd, he became really defensive when I asked to see the x-ray.
My dog is only six months old he’s had on going Heath problems, I’ve had him since 12 weeks he’s had constant diarrhoea.
in pain, whimpers, Panting and pacing the house at night, I went to sleep at 4:30 the other night because he wanted to go outside, Diarrhoea.... He’s on a specialist diet Bland food

Honestly the more you say the more I would swop vets. Why did you leave your previous vets?

I bet he hasn't done them. Or he's done them but lost them. Either way it's unacceptable.

I find that quite worrying. I'd call up and ask to speak to the practice manager and ask to arrange to go in and view the x-rays, and be given a full explanation of what is wrong with pup, without having to pay again. If they won't, then transfer veterinary practice again.

It’s a little difficult as he is the manager he owns the vet private practice in Roehampton Putney, I left my previous vet Due to lack of concern regarding my dogs diarrhoea, Sorry not Neurologist I meant radiologist. I think I’ll ring them and make an appointment to view the x-rays, I know he’s going to moan, so I’m not looking forward to that. Ugh!
He’s far too arrogant not the type of person I like dealing with, he reminded me of my abusive dad. If he’s Abrupt to me again

I like my vets as it's a practice with several vets and they often tell me they have consulted with each other when they couldn't explain my dogs symptoms. I really wouldn't like to deal with one person who was 'too busy' to show me some X-rays.

This is weird. My cat was diagnosed with terminal cancer from X-rays and they wanted to bring me in to the room to show me. I was upset and just wanted to leave but they insisted on showing me. ($1000 biopsy later cat was bloody fine .)

Every time I’ve had an animal be diagnosed by X-rays or ultrasounds for anything different vets have insisted on showing me. Even though I never have a clue of what I’m looking at. I always feel like it’s their insurance against me thinking they’re making things up or doing things they don’t need to.

Same as dentist or doctors. Always go out of their way to show you.

My vets have always taken time to show the xrays and point out issues found & have put them on a CD when asked, specialist referrals tend to do so anyway to take to own vet.

He sound's a bit of an arsehole, if he was busy why not explain & ask you to come in to discuss another time. Saw a specialist that's great surgeon but rather odd/variable interacting with people, however with regular vet I feel its important you feel at ease to discuss in consults & leave reassured.

He is not normal. All vets have shown me xrays - no I am not a vet but I can see what they point out and show me just as you would have done. Remember you have paid for those xrays and they belong to you. Take the xrays, if they exist, and go somewhere else.
You don't need to be spoken to rudely either - he is well out of order - your beloved pet is ill and it is a stressful time for you. For both of these reasons, I'd not use him again and if he was one of the partners I'd definitely leave the practice. If it is a junior vet then speak to the partner. It's a disgrace. Finally sorry to hear about darling dog.

Is there really no other vets you can go to? I'd happily travel a bit further for a good one.

OP that would make him the senior/partner practitioner (or some title like that) - there should still be a "practice manager" who is actually an admin manager, who oversees all administration related aspects of running a veterinary practice, who also handle complaints when customer is dissatisfied and they usually know how best to talk to their vets to get a satisfactory outcome all round.

That would be unheard of at the veterinary practice we use. In fact they explain things to us in too much detail for my liking! One of our dogs recently ruptured a ligament and the x rays were shown and explained to us without any prompting. The owner of the practice takes more time than anyone and it’s usually us trying to get out of the room rather than him cutting us short!

He, like all the vets in the practice, is always courteous.

At last! I have an appointment next week to view the x-ray And will not be changed.

And hope I don’t get attitude for being persistent, I have a Enough on my plate at the moment.. My dog has been diagnosed with EPI on top of everything else. He can’t be operated on till his bones are stronger.
