As someone who's dog is going in for orthopedic surgery next week with a long recovery and no idea how we are going to take care of him after the first 2-3 weeks which we've managed to get 24 hrs cover for him, I think it's a ridiculous idea.
Workplaces cannot be expected to pay for sick leave when someone's pet dog/cat/hamster/stick insect or goldfish is ill.
