If I like boxers, what other breeds might I like?

I'm at a stage in my life where I'm able to start think about getting a dog of my own, after not having one since childhood. Ideally I'd like to get a rescue dog rather than a puppy from a breeder. I grew up with boxers, but I'm open to other suggestions. I work largely from home, and am a keen runner and walker so I'd like a breed with plenty of energy and stamina. We don't have any other pets, and my children are 8 and 11. We live on the edge of a market town, have a large garden and live within easy access of lots of footpaths and country parks.

Ridgeback?
Weimaraner?
Dalmatian?

All equally as crazy and full of energy (good running partners).

Springer spaniel? Or border collie maybe. Definitely no brachycephalic breeds if you're into running and bear in mind as dogs get older their joints can't really cope with long runs.

Concur with Springer. Lots of energy and bloody lovely.

My whippet has loads of stamina. But equally content to doss all day. Happy with a 20 minute blast on a field or a 2 hour mooch. Happily comes on full days out and never seems to run out of va va voom.

But also never seems to need a walk and likes her creature comforts. By creature comforts I mean on the sofa squashed under cushions in case there is a draught somewhere.

Pointer or a setter? They are known to be bonkers but would love the exercise!

Depends what you like about boxers tbh, any fit healthy dog should have energy and stamina.

I have a setter who is wonderfully gentle, loves walks and needs 60-90 min a day but is then very relaxed at home. I used to walk him with our neighbour's young boxer. Over short sprints the boxer was faster and more powerful but always ended up stopping and gasping for air. It really showed the impact of breeding for narrowed, distorted airways.

Vizsla
Setter
Pointer

If you are thinking of adopting I wouldn't focus on looking for a certain breed, the best thing is to go to the rescue or contact them and say you are looking for a medium to large dog which is energetic and will like going for runs. They are bound to have quite a few dogs like that as they can be harder to re-home. Don't forget a higher energy dog may need quite a bit of training.

If you want something smaller, consider a Parsons Terrier. Tons of stamina, very smart with gorgeous eyes.

If you're looking for a boxer can I suggest Northern Rose boxer Rescue and also Joeys boxer rescue ? Both absolutely amazing rescues who do their utmost for the dogs in their care .
I absolutely adore boxers and imo no other breed even comes close to them so I can't help with your question (in fairness I've not had much experience with any other breeds) . Good luck finding the right dog for you :)
