New insurance with a pre-existing condition

Our Springer x was diagnosed with epilepsy this year and is being treated with Pexion daily.

Unsurprisingly, the Directline insurance renewal has increased by a third to £45 per month with increased excess to £95.

All the insurance companies I've tried to get quotes from won't cover existing conditions.

Any suggestions anyone, please?

I didn't think any insurance policy would cover existing conditions?

MsA I'm beginning to think you're right!

Weigh up how much the meds cost against the cost of the policy.
My GSD was on epilepsy meds for 10 yrs and it was still worth it to me to keep the policy going becuase we just about broke even on the cost of meds versus the cost of the policy, and it meant he was still insured for other things should he have needed it. It was a lifetime policy with PetPlan, ie, covered illnesses for the lifetime of the dog.

I don't think any insurance company will let you switch now without an exclusion on your policy for epilepsy.

It's crap when insurance companies do this though so I sympathise!

You won't get his epilepsy covered with another insurance company. That's the risk of pet insurance, as soon as you have any condition you are really tied into the insurance company/level of cover you have.

Our lab has knee problems so we know we are tied to our insurer now. Makes total sense for the insurance companies, why should they pay for an already diagnosed condition, just doesn't make business sense.

Oh well! Thanks everyone anyway. It was worth a shot Grin
