How much do you pay a house/dog sitter?

Going away for 2 weeks and mentioned to a friend that I was thinking about getting a dog/house sitter. She offered for her 17 yr old to stay over, she has babysat for us over night a few times.

So after a few meeting we have agreed on house rules and expectations on both parts but not really discussed money and I have no idea what to offer.

The friends DD is pleased to have somewhere in peace to study and a base closer to town than her own home with mum. I'll obviously stock the fridge and cupboards and only really want her to be company for Ddog, make sure she is fed, watered, loved and walked and remember to water my garden flowers

What do you think is a fair price to agree on? I'll leave some cash to buy essential whilst here, do I include this or make it extra because it's for our home and I've asked that we have milk etc for when we return.

We pay £25 for two dogs.

As a day rate? I have a professional dog sitter who has had Ddog in the past for a few days and she is £22 per day just for 1 dog and no house sitting involved as it's in her own home.

I would have taken Ddog there but it's for 2 weeks and as a rescue I just felt it might unsettle her too much so thought house/dog sitting would work better.

We pay £25 a day for live in dog sitter. We don't stock the fridge but I leave wine and I don't leave cash but I do leave vet details and our contact details.

I get paid £10 a day, just to go check on animals, feed them and water the greenhouse! I only live down the road and her dog comes and lives with me!

Yes as a day/overnight rate. And I've actually started enquiringly of friends who they use as ours gets booked up and I want a second option. £25-£30 seems to be the going rate for professionals around here.

I pay my teenage sister £20. I think it's a fair price for a few walks, constant company and one of my dogs needs medication a few times a day.

£29 was where I was thinking so thank you. Along with my Ddog being looked after I hope my flowers survive the 2 weeks and my house is reasonable with essentials when we return.

It's really nice to see someone wanting to pay a decent price to a teenager, so many posts on here are trying to pay the least amount possible.

I don't understand why anyone would want to pay less. Teens can be unpredictable and easily swayed even with the best intentions and friends without the trust added in to them her mum is very close by and I've let the neighbours know we are away and 2 have keys.

I trust her and we have discussed expectations, I've put them down on paper I remember being a teen and a good pay package lead the way for me

I am an Animal Care Provider and I currently charge £15 per 24 stay in my home for 1 dog and £25 for 2 dogs. (fees @ 2019)

I paid friend's daughter £20 a day for 5 days after googling rates on internet (she's 22) To be honest I think she would have done it for nothing as she loves dogs and loved staying in our house. Didn't ask her to do anything else other than feed & walk dog (& stay overnight obvs)

I pay £30 per 24 hours for someone to stay in the house and look after the dogs, cats and chickens - not a professional but he loves the animals and they are so happy to see him (well, the dogs at least). Works brilliantly for us

Re all the above info on dog boarding. Do you all have the licence for boarding from the council ? Also insurance. I’ve been doing this for a while now, and I’m thinking of getting totally legit by having the license & insurance. This will mean my prices going up from £10 for a 24hour stay to at least £15. Any thoughts welcome.

What you're doing now is illegal. You need to stop until you have a license or you could up in big trouble if someone reports you.

I charge £15 per dog for 24 hour care in my home or £25 for the same but with two dogs. If I were staying full time in the house of another then I would charge £5 more since I would be house sitting too.

Are you council licensed like you need to be?

I first worked via a company that covered all the legal side and fees then I had clients that already covered pet insurance and my hours don't require a council licence so I have been fortunate in not having to take on board the extras. I have a small client base that are regulars.

If you board a dog for money in the UK you need a council license.

I offer different services so am not in need but when I was the mother company organised it all under their business.
