DDog2 is beautiful, a white coat collie cross, but she is such a dirt magnet. Despite it being a beautiful dry day today she has managed to find something wet and stinky to roll in. She's got a big mucky patch of grim on her face down to her shoulder.
I have very little sense of smell but dear god she's making me feel sick! What the hell is it she's found to roll in in my small garden?

I suspect fox poo if it is making you gag Grin

Blodplod · 22/05/2017 05:52

Fox poo no doubt. You can buy fox poo shampoo from a supplier called animology (sp). It works so much better than 'normal' dog shampoo to get rid of the special smell. Even if you can't wash dog outside you could dampen the area and rub some in and rinse out.

MaitlandGirl · 22/05/2017 05:53

One of my previous dogs used to roll in decomposing rabbits or hedgehogs. It was disgusting.

The only thing to get the lingering smell out was ketchup.

picklemepopcorn · 22/05/2017 05:53

Fox poo. Baby wipes are quite effective...

GinGeum · 22/05/2017 06:05

Seconding what Maitland said. We had a home visit for a rescue dog last week and GinDog decided to roll in fox poo just before she came. He stank and I didn't have time to wash him! She suggested ketchup to me and it did indeed work. Wash with ketchup then wash with shampoo.

They are buggers, aren't they? Grin

GinDog is black, and I dread to think how filthy he'd look if he had a light coloured coat. He's a farm dog half the time, and finds all sorts of shite to roll in Grin

Mine popped up covered in green wet, last week. Don't know where he found it. Only gone seconds. Smelled like fermented cowpat watered down with puddle sludge. Yum. I had to bathe him, scrub the yellowest patches several times, and got covered in it myself. Stinky beasts.

OhBlissOhJoy · 22/05/2017 09:23

The wonderful thing about BlissDog is that she won't let me bath her so I can't even get rid of it.
They're such a delight aren't they Hmm Grin

Yes, but surely she'll let you rub her down with a wet towel and a bit of shampoo? I have a big breed dog that I can't get into the actual bath and I'm not prepared to put her in my shower as it's all new. I have a hose outside which is used for washing off, of course sometimes I don't want to go to that trouble and get ddog all wet unnecessarily. If it's just a bit of poo in a spot here or there then baby wipes (mentioned upthread) or wet towel and some shampoo? Just a thought

picklemepopcorn · 22/05/2017 14:15

Mine stays on his harness, and gets an out door wash with a bucket and soap. There is a great grooming towel from aquazorb that helps, too.

There's no way he'd stand still for a bath.... What a ridiculous idea, he says!

Gingersstuff · 22/05/2017 14:20

I have 4 retrievers and they're regularly covered in all sorts of shite like fox poo. I've kind of gotten used to it Grin
But the absolute worst smell in the world was when they discovered a decomposing seal on the beach. Oh what fun they had. The smell was indescribably bad, literally made my eyes water and I was gagging all the way home even after I dunked them in the river. I never want to smell that again, seriously. They were SO chuffed with themselves as well Shock
