How often do you bath your dog?

With dog shampoo I mean; not just a rinse down with water to get mud off.

I keep reading conflicting advice; anything from once a month to only a couple of times a year.

Whether it washes off without shampoo or not depends on the dogs coat. My wire haired terrier type or my old greyhound yes, stuff would probably wipe off with a paper. Towel to be honest.

Bichon frise, no way. I have one of those 1960s shower adapters for the bath taps and I will just try and hose the poo out the curls. But I end up having to shampoo her with a shower puff and shampoo.

Nicecuppa your mum would hate me - my lab has been in a pond today and I haven't even rinsed him- the water was clean so I just let him dry off and he doesn't smell. I've asked friends that would be honest before and they've said he doesn't smell. Must be something to do with coat type. Labs are pretty waterproof I think.

Never. Labs aged 9 & 7. I don't see it as necessary.

Usually once every 7 weeks - in between grooms.

Greyhounds, only if fox poo is involved, otherwise never.

Ddog goes to the groomers every 3 months or so to have his feet clipped and has a bath then. He's not a roller thankfully however he does have a habit of wallowing in mud (we think he's really half hippo) so he's had a bath at home on the rare occasion he's had a good wallow and we've not found any clean water to throw him in.

The only time he smells doggy is when he's not well ..

In the winter I used a small amount of puppy shampoo on her once as she's long haired and was particularly wet and filthy after the park; that would probably be the first time in about fives years or so.

Most mud seems to drop off her and brushing gets rid of the rest. Her diet is also grain free so she doesn't have a stinky dog smell.

She goes to the groomers for paw and bum trimming and they are under strict instructions not to bath her. I don't like perfumed dogs, I like the warm, clean dog smell that she has.

Groomers about four times a year, so they get bathed then. Other than that, whenever they get in something revolting, which is rare as we live in the city and they're both fastidious little fusspots who hate getting cold, wet or dirty.

Girldog has the odd lapse when she rolls in horseshit though. But only if it's dried up.
