Best dog food from Pets at Home

New rescue came to us on Harringtons so bought more of this for now. It seems quite high in cereal contents though. He's a collie cross, he doesn't need a special diet but I'd just like to make sure I'm buying the best I can. Also should I mix his dry food with any wet? He is still a bit 'loose' but he's only been with us a week so putting that down to nerves.

James Wellbeloved is a good dry food from PAH. No need for wet food alongside it, although introduce it slowly alongside the Harringtons

I used allaboutdogfood.co.uk to choose my dogs food. Not only can you see the quality but it also gives you an idea of the cost per day as some of the expensive ones are not necessarily the best for ingredients.

My puppy came to me having both dry and wet but as soon as I changed to a better quality food he was happy with just dry.

Ours is on Nature's Way, but from a local pet shop not PAH. Wet food is currently a packet one from HiLife which is just chicken and rice. Dog refuses home cooked version of the same thing for a diarrhea bug....

It's preferable to put a wet 'topper' onto dry food. While many dogs will tolerate dry on its own, having nothing but dry kibble day in day out can be pretty boring and unenjoyable for them.

As PP said, James wellbeloved is good quality from PaH - although it is a particularly dry kibble so palatability isn't great (making a topper even more potentially worthwhile)

Wet food in itself won't affect stools - the digestive system doesn't really work like that, water is absorbed in the large intestine. If loose stool does occur, it is because the change in diet was too abrupt, or something in the food doesn't agree.

Pets at Home's own brand, Wainwright's, is a good quality dried food, especially the gain free variety. Have a look at allaboutdogfood.co.uk

Pets at home do what was essentially a copy of janes wellbeloved called wainrights, though the grain free version actually has better ingredients than James wellbeloved's one...and it's a lot cheaper.

PAH do Natures Menu pouches , they get a high 4/5 on the dog food website .

I have a small shi tzu and he has very sensitive eating habits. He has gone days without eating before and most of the time I have had to throw his food away as he goes hungry and it doesn't seem to bother him.
I have tried quite a few different foods, wet and dry but a few months ago stumbled upon a gem. Wainwrights grain free. I purchased the semi dry food and add just a small amount of the same but dry food to give it texture.
As far as dog food goes it really does look appetizing, peas, carrots etc. Quite colourful. The moment I put it down, he jumps from his chair and woofs it down. :)

We use Wainwrights for our puppy. He eats it well and not had any bad effects from it. There's about 4 different flavors and matching dental sticks, treat biscuits etc so can stick to the same brand throughout. He is 8 months old now and progressing well, vets were satisfied with the food he's on too!

Another vote for Wainwright's.

There's no such thing as good quality kibble or commercial dog food. It's all full of rubbish and additives!

Please research into feeding your dog raw. It's absolutely the best thing for them, and imo it's always been cheaper!

We buy Lily's Kitchen from pah and our dog loves it.

Does it have to be from PAH? I use Millieswolfheart which I buy online and he loves it whereas he was very hit and miss with other kibbles.
