Ok, I've never actually owned a puppy before........

so I may be a fool for not realising this. But..... My lovely boy keeps eating poo. His own (if I don't get to it first!), other dogs', cats, rabbits, etc. Is this normal?
He gets 3 nice meals every day, lots of exercise, lots of love and attention, but this is just nasty. What should I do?

Yes, it is normal.

The best thing you can do is prevent him doing it as much as possible. That's easy at home (clean up after him as soon as he goes, and after other animals if you have any) though not quite so easy out and about.

Teaching a strong "leave it" ( is the first of a great series of videos on the subject) will help out on walks.

What breed is he? Some herding breeds (and their crosses) can have a genetic mutation which increases their sensitivity to certain drugs, some of which are commonly used wormers. Depending on his breed, if he's a prolific poo eater and has regular access to livestock it might be wise having a DNA test done so you know how careful you need to be.

How old is he?
I pick pup's poo as soon as she does it (yes in the garden too!)
I keep her on a longline when we are out as recall isn't 100% and that means I can steer her away. Frozen poo is great for teething she tells me!

Dogs of all ages and breeds enjoy a delicious pile of poo, however well fed and loved they are. Your pup is doing nothing unsual. They like rolling it it too sometimes! Disgusting little creatures! I have to keep cat litter tray truned to the wall because it is a delicacy to my pup, just like it was to our previous dog.

I read about feeding a chunk of pineapple from a tin which apparently puts dogs off eating cat poo. Didn't like that idea but did try dribbling a teaspoon of pineapple juice over a cat turd and leaving it conveniently in pups path. Five months on, she doesn't appear to bother even when I am slow to move cat litter tray out of her reach first thing in the morning. Probably nothing to do with the pineapple thing though but great not to smell cat poo breath.
She still likes a mouthful of cow pat though😡
