We think collar has caused hair loss, help!

Hello, we rescued our Roxy a couple of months ago now and when we got her she had a thin line of hair loss I guess where her collar was but it did just look like a line and now it is clearly a bald patch in a rough triangle where her collar sits, well would sit for the last couple of days we've used a harness but we really aren't sure what to do. The skin appears to be absolutely fine, she doesn't mind me having a look at it, it just seems so odd and it is in the exact place where her Collar sits. Has anyone else experienced this? The fur around her legs seems thin too but I think it's always been that way. Are we just being paranoid first time dog owners? She's a jrt cross and is 2 years and 4 months old.

Many thanks for any insights

Ours gets a bit of a collar mark, so long as the skin isn't irritated I don't think its a big deal. Maybe carry on using the harness for walks and see if you can find a softer or slightly looser collar just for ID tag?

Not quite the same, but my dog has long fur that can become a bit knotted around her neck sometimes. Someone told me that a round, or rolled, leather collar, rather than a flat nylon collar would help prevent the knotting.

Don't know if a similar collar would help prevent the fur being rubbed off, but it might be worth a try.

I also walk her on a harness but use the collar just for her tag.
