Anybody have a Schnauzer puppy or dog? My mum's friend is a dog breeder and has two Schnauzer puppies left. We've reserved the little boy. She won't let us take him home yet Sad and am actually really upset because we wanted to surprise the kids on Christmas Day. We know dogs are for life before anybody gets antsy which is why I want to make his entrance into our family go off with a bang Wink. Please post your pics of your Schnauzers or your other dogs. If we do get him, he will be called Alfred to be called Alfie or just Alfie. So, pictures, names and facts about your dog's behaviour! We've only ever had a gorgeous black Barbet called Simon before who was quite old and passed away. We've never had a puppy as he was a lovely rescue dog.

Thanks Smile! xx

It's not just about socialisation, any negative experiences can be as bad as no experiences at all if not worse. Lots of people get this wrong, the pup must meet lots of people yes but if it's overwhelmed or scared it can actually make the puppy frightened of people not better with them. It has to be done exactly right.

My trainer said this is one of the biggest myths about socialisation, must meet lots of people and dogs straight away. Quality over quantity is so important, 2 positive experiences with dogs for example is much better than 20 where the puppy is uncomfortable.

I have a fear aggressive one who met more dogs and people than any puppy I know but was overwhelmed and now has some serious aggression issues, it does happen.

Anyway, no I wouldn't take a puppy at Christmas. Puppies as presents are a terrible idea. It's better off with the breeder until everything is settled Smile

My last post I deleted due to spelling mistakes and things.

He's staying with the breeder until after Christmas.

You're welcome! There are still lots of fun ways you can talk to them about the puppy and surprise them with the news, whilst making sure they are ready for when the pup arrives, just best not to spring it on them when you will need to be keeping the pup calm and quiet and relaxed on arrival!
