Thinking of getting a cross breed pup, has anyone experience of having cats and then getting a poodle/ retriever pup? I'd like good and bad please!

We have 2 3 year old cats and an almost 1 year old Retriever.
The cats weren't keen at first but he was more frightened of them than anything. Especially when he got a few bops on the nose!!
One of the still avoids him but the other isn't bothered at all, he likes to lick her head and she lets him.
We always had Goldies and cats when we were growing up - the only time they were reallly good friends were when the dog was there before the cat but there were never any serious clashes or injuries at all.
We once had a cat that had kittens and our Goldie at the time absolutely adored them and used to clean the very enthusiastically- kittens were soggy but unharmed.
Generally if you avoid terriers and other breeds bred to kill small furries cats are usually pretty safe ( disclaimer - not always the case)
