what dry food for miniature dachshund?

i got reading about bakers on here yesterday and only just realised how bad it is for dogs.

Our miniature dachshund is 18months old and has been on bakers for the last few months but i want to change him to something healthier and just wondered if anyone had any recommendations?

we only have pets at home close by tonite.

We have science plan hills mini (Pets at Home have a £5 voucher in magazine at the moment) We got ddog in Jan and he's always been on it. He loves it and he has fab shiny eyes and decent poos. You don't have to feed much as there's little waste. A lot of people don't rate it. When I was in PAH I was stood next to a woman she was buying it she said her husband's a vet and he used to work for them and they know what's in it and it's decent stuff.

sounds silly but i never really thought about what food good be doing to him especially behaviour wise so i think it will be good to at least try something else.

He looks fab even the vet commented he could be a show dog breeder doesn't do papers though and he is a good, slim weight but he does go through stages of not eating and has taken to urinating in the house.

He does struggle doing a poo too and has to charge around a lot to get it out / or be walking.

Royal Canin do a dachshund food.

thanks isthat had a look at both those foods but settles on james well be good as was on offer and had heard good stuff about that too.

he is currently crunching away on it as we speak

Mine's slim, shiny coat, bright eyed, full of bounce, 'perfect' according to the vet - on Autarky working dog food as he won't eat his own because the collie doesn't have it

ha klep ours only seems to manage the small dog sized bites.

he's quite a fussy eater so if he likes something we tend to stick with it. fingers crossed for his stuff.

Awww love to hear of him crunching away. Hope he gets on well with it. Don't know if you know but if you try it and it doesn't suit you can take it back to Pets at Home.

We feed our mini dachshund Lilly's Kitchen (both dry and wet), I think it's stocked in most naice independent/boutique dog shops but Waitrose has also started selling a limited range.

We literally don't feed him anything else as I'm afraid to give him "junk food" like Bakers or other High Street brands. Our dog trainer said it was like feeding them McDonalds

It's quite expensive though.

My cats used to eat tins of Bakers cat food - they did a pack of fishy varieties and they loved it. They were perfectly healthy, shiny, purry cats 😊

Though it's more expensive op you may find you need less as some cheaper brands have more fillers. Check the guide on the bag 😊 It's was to overfeed when they're so little but don't seem gobblers like labs. I was kind of feeding ddog on demand and his weight was stealthily creeping. He has leg probs so needs to be as light as poss.

i did see the lillys kitchen stuff. we will stick with james wellbegood for now see how he gets on. would be nice if he did settle a little and found it easier going to the loo.

that is exactly how i explained bakers to dp when i had read all the info. he was eyeing up aldi stuff last night and coming home to compare it with james wellbegood tight buggee. 1 bag will easily last ours a month.

Hi I have a mini dachshund as well I've recently changed to grain free evolution naturally his coat is so shiny and he wolfs it down in seconds . He had previously been on Royal canin which is full of grains and fillers take a look at allaboutdogfood.com it has review on most dog foods I was surprised at what a low rating Royal canin gets considering my vet recommends it !.

I'm a huge believer in aldi quality but sadly their dry dog food looked very poor. Though when ddog got the chance to try some he loved it. Though it was a treat! Maybe like a Big Mac? He does have the occasional small Earls tin though - one will last about 3 meals as a little treat mixed in with dry.
