Our puppy just ate chocolate...help!

Our Jack Russell puppy just managed to eat 8 chocolate seashells-I know chocolate can be poisonous to dogs. Should I take him to the vets?
He seems ok-no signs of being ill yet.

I'd phone them now and ask what to do. The emergency vet number should be on the answerphone message of your regular vet.

My Dads puppy did that recently. Ended up in vet overnight on a drip! That was a whole bar of dark chocolate though. Please call vet they will ask weight of chocolate and weight of puppy and cocoa content

A puppy eating 8 chocolates is really dangerous. Call your vet ASAP.

I wouldn't panic too much it'll probably be fine. Just give the vet a ring though and see what they say

Do call the vet as he's a wee thing. So you can give the vet accurate information, weigh a choc and see if the cocoa content is listed on the packaging to see how much he's had. Also they may want to know weight of pup. Those seashells wont be as bad as high cocoa plain choc .... just that amount of fat and sugar may make him puke/trots but that might not be such a bad thing.

Call the vet- do you know how much he weighs? It's all to do with the cocoa content, so have the box to hand as all of you can.

There is an online calculator but better to get a professional opinion with a puppy.

My mum's Bichon ate a whole box of chocs once (bizarrely left the coffee creams ). He ended up overnight in vets very poorly. I think they gave him something to make him sick. He was fine but I'd ring vet for advice. Better to be safe than sorry.

yes call the vets, he is such a small breed and a pup that he might need seeing to.

Thanks y'all. I rang them and took him in-he was given an injection to make him vomit and I've to give him some liquid charcoal every four hours until tomorrow tea time and keep a close eye on him. Currently on the sofa with me looking sorry for himself.
Was good it was seashells as they have a praline middle so not as bad as solid dark chocolate might have been, and because-thanks to all of you-he was seen fairly quickly-otherwise he would have needed to stay in overnight.
