Dog collar ID tags - buying online

I need to get some new collar ID tags for the dogs as their existing ones have got an old work number on them. I can't remember where I got their last ones but it was online and you could see a preview of what the finished item would look like to show the layout after you entered the text, has anyone ordered any recently and come across a site like this? There are so many of them and I've just tried four but none offer this preview. I just want plain ones, nothing fancy like pretty colours or bone shapes!

Also, I've never had their names put on them as people always used to warn against this, but if they were genuinely lost and found they might feel more secure if the finder knew their name (one is quite nervous), what do you think?

I always get these deep engraved tags. You don't get a full preview but you enter text per line so you know it's not going to end up weirdly laid out.

I don't bother putting their names on mine. Not because I'm worried about it leading to them being stolen (because someone is much more likely to get their names from hearing me call them and by the time they're close enough to read the names they'd have hold of them anyway) but because I prefer to put something useful on instead.

Mine have a main tag with my surname, house number & street, postcode, house phone number, my mobile and DH's mobile. They then have a second "I'm microchipped" tag with the name of the vets we use plus their phone number and postcode.

The legal minimum you need is your name and address, everything else is optional though I (obviously!) like to have as much information on them as possible.

I have ordered many times from Identitag.co.uk. Great service and good prices. Not sure if you get a preview but, as above, you enter the text as you want it to appear on the tag. I always have my name and address on one side and phone nos and "I am microchipped" on the other.

Pets at home do good engraved ID tags. We put our surname and 2 mobile phone numbers on the other side of the tag.

A friend has just enrolled in puppy school, she was told the dog tag should have, by law, your postcode and phone number. Apparently as all dogs should be chipped now, that is all that is needed.

Indigo tags for mine. I have the type that slide onto the collar rather than dangle from it.

They can't lose them and the engraving on them is as clear now as it was maybe 5 years ago when I bought them.

As far as I know, just to comment on a post above, the legal requirements for tags and what should be on the tag has not changed in a long time.

The owner's address should be on there, which is adequately covered by the house number and postcode. Your surname and contact phone number are also legal requirements. So you could have something like:

Mr J Bloggs
No 32, PE25 6DH
01366 666666

I haven't put the address on for years. As long as someone can get hold of you by your phone no nobody is evergoing to complain. The address rule comes from the days when not everyone had phones.

And never think that a microchip is enough. I once stopped when a dog got hit by a car on a motorway. I had to wait nearly an hour for the police, then they said it would be another hour for a vet to arrive. The dog died. Turns out the owners were frantically searching for him five minutes away, but the dog had no tag and we couldn't get the dog scanned for another day, so the owners had to wait. They could have been with their dog or even got him to a vet if he had had a collar tag on. 😥

As lime says the law still requires your name and address including postcode.

We also use indigo tags, never had to replace one.

I've tried the sites suggested but none of them offer a preview which is what I really wanted, I do like the look of the Indigo tags though so think I will go with those.

After my dog bolted today after being attacked I second actually much info as possible it enabled someone that caught him to call me (I was hunting for him )

Rather than go to vet check microchipped and me still hunting in a blind panic
