Eek.

Can anyone give me pointers for questions we should ask that we might have missed please?

We won't be bringing them home today.

There are some Innu names here. (Innu are one of the original people's living in Labrador)

Omg! So sweet! Love puppies :) She looks like a Bessie to me, which is similar to Bertie ;)

We had 4 weeks pet insurance via Kennel Club, she wasnt chipped so we got that done. She also had her first vaccination which was unfortunately not the same one as the vet we registered her with used, so she had to start them all again, and put her back a few weeks. Just something to be aware of.
We went to the breeder (family dog, second and last litter) and met all the pups and mum, but had actually seen dad before and was almost going to go for a pup from that breeder, which would have also been £200 more! She was 15 min drive away, so perfect for visits. We went with one in mind as they put up a fab website with all the puppies photos, and ones from the previous litter, but she was already taken. When we got there, we were shown the available ones and one of those came over for hugs. She then fell asleep on my forearm so I took that as a sign :) She also played with my yd, so another good sign. So deposit down, and a few weeks later we brough her home. That was 4 years ago and I wouldn't change her for the world

Goingtobeawesome · 22/08/2016 17:31

Interesting you say about the vaccination having to be restarted as the breeder isn't doing the first jab for that reason. It has felt odd but I'm reassured now it isn't as bad as it sounded.

I was liking clover but don't think that is quite right for her.

We were all handed a puppy and they had been napping and she went back to sleep in me straight away and then squeaked and wiggled as she slept and dreamt.

Have a look into the vaccinations. I don't know if the must be done tbh. I thought that KC puppies had to have had their first ones, but not 100%z

I understand about having to use the same one, but we just took our puppy to the breeders vet, so they could have the same brand.

I am pretty sure all puppies must be microchipped before being sold now.

Goingtobeawesome · 23/08/2016 07:55

I'm going to ring our vet as soon as we get a definite date for picking her up. She's having her jabs definitely. I'd prefer to use ours for all than use the breeders but as she so far isn't getting them done that won't be an option.

How age critical is it please? I don't want to pick her up then take her to the vet the same day or the next for a jab. I assume that would be too much for her.

Tbh I am not sure how age critical it is. Maybe call the vet and ask?

But you would be right to Give her a few days to settle in.

I think dpup has her last one at about 12 weeks. I do remember feeling like I had cabin fever from staying in with her. I was so happy when she could go out for short walks or on visits to the in laws etc.

Goingtobeawesome · 23/08/2016 09:03

Luckily we have a good size garden so I'll be taking her out there. It will probably feel like a field to her Grin. I will ring the vet too.

No it was me that hated it. GrinThe dog loved it. We have a big garden so there was load to explore.

The dog was fine, it was me that was a pain Grin

My daughter carried our pup on her lap (she uses a wheelchair) on her way to and from school. That got her used to traffic and other people, without having to walk on the ground. The trick is to not make any noise if a big truck drives past, or there is a loud noise of any kind as they pick up on and it can become an issue. I found out later you can actually buy bags to carry them in, and had I know that, I would have carried her into town and into more shops :) and might have made her friendlier towards strangers.

Goingtobeawesome · 23/08/2016 15:38

Ooo oooo ooo more shopping !

Yesterday I bought her two toys.

Considering Meg but not sure.

She's wonderful. She looks like Poppy the puppy to me.

TrionicLettuce · 23/08/2016 15:53

I tend to take pups for their first vaccinations a few days after bringing them home.

You can (and should) start with socialisation before her vaccinations are completed. Carrying them out and about is great for introducing them to all sorts. The Puppy Plan is a great resource for socialisation ideas, it gives you a breakdown of what should ideally be done when.

Goingtobeawesome · 23/08/2016 16:06

Poppy is an absolute no way. relative of someone who hurt my DC very badly

Thank you for the link. We have a DVD, books and magazines but you can't beat real people advice.

I like Meg & Milly.

We have both just melted at your photo. I'd love a GR but sadly our lifestyle isn't conducive to having a dog :( so I live vicariously

Goingtobeawesome · 23/08/2016 18:36

Just for you then

That's my hair, I don't have a wrinkly décolletage HmmGrin.

Lancelottie · 01/09/2016 13:14

I think she's a Nancy or Peggy.

Goingtobeawesome · 01/09/2016 17:15

I either don't like the names or they are people I know and don't like. Why is it so hard?!
