Just had to rush Ddog to vet... Anyone around for a handhold?

11 month old lab, only been with us since April though. He was fine on his walk but he's suddenly gone down hill, very lethargic and so wobbly he could barely walk. We rushed him to the vet, his heart rate and temperature are both very low, and capillary refill slow. She had no idea why, she's kept him in for blood tests and possibly an xray.

Resisting the urge to Google but home alone with toddler DS and it's hard.

Oh no! Poor you. I hope you get some news soon. Definitely don't google. You'll end up even more worried. Don't know what to say but just wanted to offer a virtual handhold. I'd be beside myself if it was my dog xx

It's possible, he's off lead so not attached to us. DH took him and didn't see anything obvious but who knows? He's a lab and was found straying in December, it's made him an accomplished scavenger.

We lost our 6 year old lab boy to cancer in January, I'm pregnant and emotional. You try not to think the worst but it's so hard...

Vet has just called, all of the bloods have come back clear. Hos heart rate is just 40bpm so they're doing an ECG. The vet asked a lot of questions about if any of us are on heart meds (no) and his history, unfortunately we can't tell them much as we've not had him long.

Just a waiting game for us now.

There're been a few cases locally of dogs collapsing after eating drug addicts' poo in the bushes but they've all been fine after a worrying few days - fingers crossed your boy picks up soon

The vet thinks that he has a heart condition and it looks like he'll be transferred to a specialist on Monday to have a pacemaker fitted. It's such a shock, he was absolutely fine a few hours back (although obviously he wasn't...).

Just got back from dropping off food and bedding for him but unfortunately couldn't speak to the vet. I don't know how stable he is or if there's a chance he might not make it to Monday. Just waiting for him to call.

What a shock for you, poor DDog and you. I hope the specialist vet is able to work their magic on Monday.

Gosh what a shock. I know a lab with a pacemaker who only got their abnormal heart noticed at a check up when he had been bitten by another dog. That dog bite saved his life and he is still alive a few years on from this, and from Facebook lives a good active life.
Hoping for the same outcome for your young boy.

DH is announced he's still going on his planned night away, so he'll be 2 hours away if anything happens. I'll be on my own with DS, bit peed off tbh.

Will probably have a good sob when DS is finally in bed l.

Aww, hope he's ok, especially after you've just lost your old dog. And I hope you've got good insurance!

I've got a 13 month lab so I know the love you feel. My DH would also have gone out regardless (arseholes they are). This is why I love the dog more!!!

Yes he's fully insured, although I contacted the rescue just to let them know (they also rehomed his litter mate so if it's a genetic problem they can pass on the info) and they immediately offered to pay, which was very sweet. I'm stressing about future premiums, though.

No word overnight so I'm guessing he's still stable. They'd ring otherwise, right?

They're shut today so the phones are off, which is a pain. They said they'd ring me but obviously will depend on if they have emergencies or not.

handholding as well. My 3 year old lab went downhill very suddenly a couple of months ago - his gut had stopped working. Probably something he snaffled. All OK now. Everyone's understanding and support on this site really helped. Hope all is well.

Yes, I would say no news is good news. They would call you honest.

I know how hard it is. We actually, along with the vet jokethat our older dog only likes to go to the vet when nobody else is there. Bank holidays, weekends, the death of the night.......but never ever ever in normal working hours when fees are reasonable. Never. I would actually dread to think how much she has cost us over her years on out of hours call outs. But she is of course worth it.

He's home!

He completely turned around in the night. The vet thinks it's more likely that he ate an animal that had been poisoned. We have to monitor him and any problems at all he's straight back.

He's got a shaved patch on his neck which looks quite red and swollen, it's right where his collar sits so I've taken it off and will use his harness instead until it looks better.

He's very clingy bless him.
