My dog was just bitten by another dog.

My dog has just been attacked by another dog. He has a few scratches on his back but his ear looks a mess and won't stop bleeding. He's a bit shaken up, really jumpy. It's an hour wait for a taxi to the vets and I can't calm down. This is not the first time this particular dog has gone for my dog. The owners never have it on a lead and it has zero recall. It's constantly running in to my garden to chase my cat or look for my dog to start a fight. It barks and snarls at me and my son everytime we walk past it's house on the way to school and it can easily jump over the wall.

Would it be unreasonable for me to report it to the dog warden? I'm really angry. I just want them to put it on a fucking lead!

Your poor dog. I would report. Will you have a vet's bill to pay?

Sorry, OP. I've just realised you'll have a taxi fare to pay too. And your poor dog will have had an awful fright. I imagine the other dog might have done this before.

Of course it wouldn't be unreasonable, they're breaking the law having their dog running around loose, It could be a child next time. It also wouldn't be unreasonable to hand them your vet bill. Hope your dog recovers OK, try to calm down though, your dog will sense your anxiety. (I know easier said than done)

I would always always report a dog attack as vicious as the one your poor dog has experienced.

My mum's dog was attacked, whilst he was on the lead, by a neighbour's dog which was roaming on the street. The consequences were quite serious as my mum fell whilst trying to protect her dog and broke some vertebrae.

The neighbour said that this was the first time this had happened, but they were lying as my mum found out later that another woman had been bitten by the neighbour's dog whilst protecting her own. If the first woman had reported the first attack, it is quite possible that the second one on my mum's dog would never have happened.

I've calmed down now, my dog is still quite jumpy though. I don't want him to have any lasting effects from this. He's only just got his confidence back after the last time he was attacked by a similar dog. My poor little puppers :(

I've cleaned his ear up and it's stopped bleeding. It looked much worse than it is. Ear wounds always do I guess. He doesn't want me touching his back so I guess it's very sore, it's not bleeding though.

I'm so angry at the owner. She wasn't even carrying a lead, made one feeble attempt to call her dog off mine and then just gave up! I know it's not the first time her dogs have attacked another.

Dog warden line is closed now so I will have to report it tomorrow. I can't let them keep getting away with not keeping their dogs under control.

So it runs onto your private property? If you were a farmer you would be allowed to shot it where I come from.......

Yes, both of their dogs regularly run around in my gardens. The owners let them chase my cats, they make no attempts to get their dogs off my property. One time they were walking past with the dogs off the lead and the dogs charged up to my 4yr old son to get at the cat he was holding. I had to pick my son up and hold him above my head. I shouted at the owner ( I was angry and scared) and he told me "That's nature, love. It's what dogs do"

Take a picture of the wound too

Report it to the police on the 101 number too. It is an offence to have an out of control dog. Lots of good advice on the Fido site.

Take photographs of your dog's injuries.
Sit down and make a list of other events - the dog charging your child while he was holding a cat is a significant one. But list anything else you can remember. Keep a diary hence forth.

I own a large dog with poor recall, rather too fond of chasing cats, and I am absolutely anal keeping him on lead and under control unless safe to do otherwise. I am livid with irresponsible dog owners like who you are describing. "Their nature" - yes, it is, which is why we as owners have to mitigate against that!
IME dog wardens are very interested in these kind of incidents - I hope you get somewhere. There is no way you ought to live in fear of going in to your own garden.

What an irresponsible git. That is not "what dogs do." Sounds like he has got a bad attitude. If you can't get hold of the dog warden then it might be worth contacting the police. At least your complaint is logged and that way you can present him with any veterinary fees you might now incur. The previous occasion must have been quite frightening for your son. Definitely report these people, it could be a child that gets hurt next. How dare they let their dog run around on your property.

I'd be tempted to call 101 and get a nice policeman round there to have a quiet word. It worked for a friend of mine who's deranged neighbour let his dog out to chase her ponies in their own field. The ponies were pretty stressed but physically unhurt but the police were not amused.
