Walking puppies for the first time

My puppy Yorkie has had all her shots and is now ready to venture out into the the big wide world. However, she is just not interested, sits down and refuses to budge. Any tips on how to get her to enjoy her walkies?

Yep my dog was like this as a very small puppy - she's five now. She'd sit outside the front door and refuse to move.

This has come up on here before and seems to be quite usual.

Take it very slowly, don't be tempted to drag her, as someone on another thread was advised to do.

Just let her take her time and look around; the world must seem a scary place and the ground must feel strange to their little paws.

You could try carrying her a little way from your house - even just to the end of the garden at first - and letting her walk back.

Lots of patience and lots of treats and before you know it she'll be leaping around barking at the door as soon as you get the lead out.

Carry high value treats like baked liver or chopped up hot dog sausages and encourage her along

Yes lots and lots of treats and be prepared for it to take a while as everyone you meet will want to fuss the puppy.

There was a good programme on just over a year ago that followed the lives of several puppies (BBC1 or 2 maybe) - they recommended carrying for a little bit as the puppy was scared. Ours does this sometimes.
