Getting rid of the final puppy pad

First time dog owner. Have a lovely little dog now 13 months old, had her since 8 weeks.
Toilet training was relatively easy as she came to us already using puppy pads and we did the rewarding and praise when she went outside.
When she first arrived we had builders working in the kitchen so she was in the living room with puppy pads on the carpeted floor.
We just can't get rid of the final puppy pad. She is let out regularly but still uses the pad when it suits her. I have tried edging the pad bit by bit out of the doorway and towards the back door but once it goes past a certain point she just wees on the carpet where the pad usually is.
I should say that my dd has been in hospital for a few months so this hasn't received my full attention, but am hoping to tackle it now dd is home.
I am going to clean the carpets tomorrow in the hope of removing any last trace of her smell.
Any advice please?

Unfortunately this is where using pads falls down. It has only taught your dog that soft surfaces are ok to toilet on....puppy pad=carpet.

You need to bin the last one and go right back to basics. the facebook group 'Dog Training Advice and Support' has an excellent file on the subject.

Thanks everyone. Will clean the carpet and see if I can put some obstacles on it! Back to basics by the look of it...sigh!
