I have a gorgeous 4 month old miniature schnauzer and despite having dogs when I was a child I feel that she is the first dog which has really been my own.
She is very good, happy to sleep all night in her crate, coping with my mad kids and just a joy to have around.
But I am stressed and worried I'm doing everything wrong. So can I ask you some stupid questions?
How long is in ok to leave her alone? (I'm not really leaving her much at all)
How much should I be walking her? (I'm doing about an hour a day)
And how on earth can such a tiny creature I've know such a short time become SO Important to ME so quickly!
You don't have to answer the last one.

All your lovely minis are making me v broody. We are going to view the pups on Sunday and I am going to tell my kids (12, 8 and 6) on Saturday. I have wanted a dog since I was a child and have spent the last year or so driving my family mad with my research ( in fact I was on here a while back trying to decide between a whippet or a miniature schnauzer).

Looking after our friends' mini a couple of times helped make our decision. Having scared myself witless by reading so many posts on here on how hard the puppy days are, I am prepared for the worst. I am a little bit terrified but so excited. I think we may possibly have a choice on gender, but I just want the right pup for us.

Will post a pic soon hopefully. Any advice on minis greatly appreciated and it is so wonderful to see these lovely posts and pics.

I'm going to chime in and add - leave her alone every day for varying times, it helps prevent separation anxiety when they're older :)

She is 4 month old now and we have a crate at night which is managed really well. She also has a pen so I can put her in there if I need to pop out. The chewing, sock stealing and being nippy is just all part of it. She is definitely calming down. She mostly lives in the kitchen and we let her in the other rooms in the evening for a cuddle when she is sleepy. It has changed my life because I can't leave her for long but it's all for the better. My eldest is the first up with her every morning and takes her out in the garden and plays with her before school. She has had such an impact on us all and I think especially my eldest. She has become more confident and has just loved all the puppy training classes.
I've just got back from a walk in the woods with her in the mud and rain, I loved every minute.
Enjoy.

BestIsWest, he is pepper and salt but will be darker. Mum is black and silver and dad is pepper and salt.
