They are just dogs - AIBU to be pissed off?

Punter lab is coming up to 3 now, he does not like GS dogs after one pinned him down during a play chase about 1 year ago. So he does display some fear and submission tendencies if one approaches us. Then we move on. On a usual walk we have previously met 2 women with 4 GSs and been told that 'they just want to play but other dogs don't seem to realise this'. Today they had two with them, both under 1 year old I think but still large. One, male, approached my lab and started the dry humping. I could not get him off, he had no recall, took both the women to get him off. That is when one said 'they are only dogs'. Yes I said that is a dominance issue and my dog does not like to be dominated. I put mine on a lead and walked the opposite way. The other GS followed us and tried to involve the lab in some play boxing (fair enough) but when my lab decided not, the GS started to nip under my lab's neck. Again recall did not work. I told them to get their dog off mine and she said again 'oh well they are just dogs'. What does that MEAN! I need to vent - am I over reacting to feel upset. Lab is fine but smells of GS!

YANBU. we have a GSD X and he is very boisterous in his play, though it's probably partly because he's only 10 months. We always try to keep him away from other dogs unless they approach first and then we remove him as soon as things get too much for the other dog (usually before). I would be appauled if he behaved t
he way those GSDs did and would apologise profusely!

YANBU. I have a lab who is over boisterous with other dogs and another that growls at other dogs (that's all she does) so I keep them on the lead if I see other dogs, at least initially until I've checked that the owner doesn't mind. They all do usually calm down and sort things out quickly when off lead.

I have two GSD and both are very well mannered although they do like to play rough if given the chance, hence I keep them under control around strange dogs. To be honest I don't think it's anything to do with the breed and more the fact the woman couldn't control her dogs.
It is annoying to have a breed that some people don't like and won't let socialise, but she isn't doing the breed any favours.

Not sure what you mean by your dog smells of GS though

She should have stepped in a bit earlier when the recall didn't work but they are still very young and being a bit crap at training isn't the sole domain of GSD owners or their dogs. Maybe she picked up on your tension and was trying to cackhandedly reassure you.

I don't get the 'smells of GS' either. A dog smell is a dog smell. Our Lab plays with lots of other dogs in a doggy daycare place and always smells more Doggy after a day there, but that is what dogs do.

YANBU, in your place I would be very rattled. We have three giant, very unfriendly dogs and in public they are always on leads and under perfect control (law in the country we live in but I would follow that anyway).
The dogs may have been rescues, and still in training (we adopted an 11 month old rescue pup yesterday whose training needs refining) but if that was the case they should have made more effort to control them, or kept them on a lead.
