Tips for how to help ddog cope with the hot weather please?

Eric's under the weather and so quiet today anyway but wonder if you'd mind sharing your top tips for keeping them happy whilst it's so hot?
Eric's not keen on the heat anyway so finds the coolest spot in the house and sleeps a lot. He's going to be clipped on Friday which always seems to help but of course he needs to be well for that.
Other than early morning and late evening walks and ice cubes in his waterwhat else could I be doing?

I saw somewhere someone mentioned soaking a towel in water and lying it on a tiles floor somewhere.

Also freezing chicken stock and treats into cubes/large Tupperware boxes etc, keeps them cool while they lick them! Just watch the salt content, obviously defeats the object!

Mine is led in the paddling pool at the moment to cool off which the dcs find hilarious, he has also had a wash with the hosepipe and asleep in the shade.

My groomers suggesting a cold cloth on the groin area if your dog will tolerate it.

My Doodle was clipped as close as possible with shaving him bald!. Both are now in front of a fan that I have going just for them.

I have used a Mars Coat King on Milo to remove as much of his fluffy undercoat as possible without making him look bald and it has certainly helped.

I feed him frozen treats and as he part raw fed, I have been freezing chicken wings which he likes to take outside and chew on.

I have also bought him a baby paddling pool which he is enjoying, I put his tennis balls in there and he does a kind of Halloween Bob Apple - which keeps him entertained as he has yet to work out why he can see the ball, touch it with his paw but not get it in his mouth without putting his snout underwater - which he doesn't really want to do!!

The front of my house is north facing and he likes to lie on the tiled floor in the hall which is cool

I was talking to a lady this morning who has a 'cool coat' for her pug which apparently circulates water to keep dogs body temperature down (I was interested for myself at night!!)

Poor dog its just too warm to feel underthe weather in.

Madam is as suseptible to heat as she is to cold. I walk her early morning whilst its cool. Frozen Kongs are great dog lollies you can block the hole at the end by using a small amount of peanut butter. Mine enjoys hint of tuna flakes in ice. She also has a Chillax Cool Pad that I place in the car.

I use a fan out of dogs reach at home aimmed at her fave day time snooze space.I leave a washing up bowl full of fresh cool in the shade in the garden and change her water bowl twice a day on hot days. Madam would far rather I just left the tap on for her but she does not pay the water bills. She also loves to play in and out of the housepipe when I water my herbs and veg at the end of the day. She did have a paddling pool but punctured the blow up side. silly dog. If there is a heat warning she stays home and I plan when I do what with her round the heat.

My Ddog has a rigid plastic sandpit with water in at my DD's house and will sleep in a few inches of water. At home it's cool tiles, in a draught if possible, or the grass if not in the sun. Like everyone else we walk early and late.

My poor DD hates the hot weather - she has a double coat - and we probably won't go for a walk until at least 7/7.30; been to the park at 9pm before now when summers have been hot.

At the moment she's lying in the shade on the grass, which seems to keep her cool. Won't go in water so that's out, but as long as I don't take her out in it she seems to manage ok.

I am lucky though as house is pretty cool anyway.

When it's hot I found my two like a few slices of cold watermelon - just make sure you remove the seeds. It's a good way of rehydrating them. A splash in the sea or letting them into the bathroom to lie on the cold tiles also works.

We don't have the heatwave here yet so my lurcher has just tucked herself up inside a single duvet. She's a proper sun worshipper though - we have to put the factor 50 on her at this time of year.

Ooooo frozen Kong is a good idea. Just off to freeze ours.

My lurcher type/heinz 57 rescue dog doesn't make any allowances for the heat, he's still desperate to go out for long walk and runs around chasing rabbits and trying to get me to throw a ball. Doesn't like swimming so can't cool off in the river like my lab.
When we got back from walk today he was breathing so fast I thought he was about to have a heart attack.
He's now lying on the lawn on his back with a cold wet towel over him. Breathing getting back to normal and looks like he's really enjoying it.

When you say frozen kong, what do you put in it? Ddog has chewed the end off of his so the hole is a bit wider than when I bought it! Stupidly bought the one for senior dogs thinking with his lack of teeth it would be better... Little bugger

You can freeze anything your dog might like. My dogs don't seem to care what's in the Kong, they'll eat anything - instant mashed potato with bits of raw carrot, banana and bread, easy and cheap. If your dog's more fussy you could mix in a few treats.

Mine love a cool mat and a floor fan.

Home bargains are selling cool mats at the moment for £2.99. Perfect Scottie size so bigger dogs might need two, but they are good. I sat with my feet on murphs and it was lovely and cool.

Mine has a cotton coat which can be put on damp and regularly rewetted - much easier than their fur to get properly wet.

I have a lab who hates water - she won't swim or paddle in the river with my other dog, but she will tolerate having her feet dipped in a bowl of iced water, so I've been doing that a few times today on a shady patch of lawn.

I feel a bit mean as mine hasn't been out for 3 days. Usually twice a day for an hour but she is just sleeping and looking pained. We walked up the road yesterday and she just sat and refused to move. Its quite sad as shes usually full of it!

my dog's currently enjoying a doggy 'ice cream' - natural yoghurt, banana and peanut butter whizzed together in the blender and then poured into a kong and frozen - he thinks it's yummy

this morning at the pond it was like a beach party just for dogs - there were about 10 dogs of all shapes and sizes splashing about in the water

I'm waiting until it's nearly dark and then I'll take him back to the pond for a quick dip and then home - he's double coated and it's way too hot for him to be running around like a loon as usual

No walks during the day, we're taking him out at 8pm or 9pm this week

Dog lollies! Make up a couple of pints of very dilute gravy, low sodium if you prefer, throw in a handful of dog biscuits or kibble/ small chews & pour into old yoghurt pots.Use a stick chew as a handle & freeze.

My DDog would rather spontaneously combust than get wet. He's asleep on the sofa as he said the kitchen floor is too hard.

Eric's usually up for as many walks as you can muster but we are now doing a short walk at 8 o'clock after the school drop off and one around half nine just before it gets dark although it was 29 degrees here at 9pm yesterday so it was a short stroll. The rest of the time he's sleeping in one cool spot after another. He doesn't even bother to guard me when I'm pegging washing out just raises his head as if to say "nah, you go"

I took my little dog out this morning at 5.45 still feeling knocked out from yesterday and the sleepless night- me not the dog
She has since slept but still leaps awake to run after me when I move, which I am not doing often.

She did overheat playing ball with a doggy friend in the 1st hottest day a few weeks ago, and laying damp flannels on her back of neck and hind quarters did help when we got home.
