Beagle's anal glands...boak...

Do I really have to take him to the vets to get them emptied every few weeks?!

He has fibre added to his diet and the odd weetabix (he's a fat bastard).

What can I do? I'm pregnant at the mo and therefore have the same nose skills as the beagle himself! Leaving smell smears and sometimes puddles (that I fucking step in) around the house isn't on.

And it can't be nice for jim, the poor love.

Help?!

A friend of mine's vet offered to show her how to do it herself. She demurred, but only because she doesn't have children so has the time and money to take him to the vet for this.

My vet showed me how to do it for our springer. I tried, I really did, but I couldn't do it, even with plastic gloves on. I was afraid to squeeze too hard & it felt weird. The dog was confused too.

It'll be back to the vets next time it needs doing.

Long term losing weight may help.
You can learn to do it yourself.

Some groomers do it, cheaper than the vets!
