Advice please if anyone is on line this early.

our 7 month old puppy got hold of a cooked chicken wing at a BBQ yesterday (don't judge me please, he was with someone else while I ate my food
He seemed fine at the time, fine all evening but I've come down this morning to a small pile of sick.
He seems fine in himself, quite normal behaviour.
Do I give breakfast as usual?

The general advice is not to feed after episodes of sickness or skitters (can't spell the proper name!) for 12 hours if mild, and 24 hours if lots.

I would then feed something like scrambled egg.

He'll probably be fine. My dog is sick if he eats food he's not used to ( but is absolutely okay after devouring any kind of rubbish he finds outside - leftover takeaways, dead swans, etc!)

If it had bones in, worth watching him closely over the next few days as the bones can get stuck or tear him inside.

I've no plans for today except a little chauffeuring of the DCs so I will keep a close eye on him.
Sod's law wasn't it? I spent 30 minutes keeping him away for all the food, plates, BBQ etc and then he's with someone else for 5 minutes and eats something potentially really dangerous

The guys that were watching him said he did eat the bone. I think it was a partially eaten chicken wing.

Makes me so angry when people let them do that OP. I watch my dog like a hawk and I tell people they must never ever feed him but still they try to sneak him titbits or drop stuff on the floor I don't know if they think they're being kind or what but I just wish they would listen to me.

I'm sure he will be fine, you must post a puppy picture for us to assess his condition!!

MrsM, I think they were just being blokes and paying more attention to their beers than to the dog. They did try and get it off him when they saw what he'd got but it was too late.

If he has only been sick once I would feed as normal , my dog vomited once last night and he has had his breakfast today . ( he had some thick yoghurt that disagreed with him)

Olly's advices is out of date we do not starve anymore as the fastest thing to put guts right is food. Feed as normal if there is any more vomiting it requires veterinary attention.

Oh is that the case now, LoneCat? Only my collie barfs every couple of months or so it seems, so he'll be glad if I won't have to starve him now. Plus I won't have to shell out on the rice and mince

The theory is if you starve and the bland diet the gut adapts to this and then you ask it to change when you go back to normal food.

You also shouldnt fast a puppy unless absolutely necessary. Just keep an eye on him (which at 7 months I'm sure you have to do anyway if you don't want utter chaos and destruction!?!! ), most dogs get hold of a cooked bone at some point or other in their lives, most have no problems from it at all so try not to worry too much

Poos at the park were quite normal this afternoon and his behaviour all day has been the usual.
He's just had an early tea as no breakfast and eaten most of it (usual for him to leave some).
So, all seems ok so far.
