What other breed is my SBTX crossed with do you think?

We adopted Ralph from the RSPCA in January. They said he would be a big dog, but he's 6 months old now, and isn't really that big. They didn't really know what he was crossed with. He is clearly Staffie, and I'm thinking maybe Collie. What do people think?

Ooh he does look quite collie-ish, with the coat and tail tip. He's got a longer neck and muzzle too. I can't think what else he'd be.

He's gorgeous. Love those ears!

Thanks - he is so lovely (and very busy!) Smile

Yes, definitely looks like collie. Would you consider a DNA test to find out for sure?
We have two X breed, one has had a DNA test done and we are waiting for the results of the other.
You can see two of the breeds in our texted dog but the third isn't obvious.

DontFearTheSweeper · 27/04/2015 14:53

How much did the DNA cost Five? I would be interested in getting that for our lurcher. I think she's greyhound x lab but would be nice to know for sure.

Vinnyinny · 27/04/2015 15:07

Yes, I would be interested in a DNA test, so long as it doesn't cost the earth. I'm interested to know a bit more about him really, as the RSPCA had no information, except that he was left there as a result of overbreeding(?). He's a little nervous, especially around my husband, and I just want to tailor the way I train/treat him to his breed a bit more (if that makes sense).

The DNA tests can be a bit shonky. I know of a couple of people (both have Lurchers actually) who have had clearly ridiculous breeds come up, only for the DNA company to revise them when they questioned it.

moosemama · 27/04/2015 20:48

Oops, forgot what I came for. Blush

Definitely Border Collie in there quite strongly with his white markings, particularly that lovely stripe down his face. Smile He could well be a mix of several breeds though, it's often hard to tell.

Whatever he is, he's 100% gorgeous. Smile

We used the Wisdom Panel test as that has the most breeds on it's data base, and now uses information from UK dogs as well as American ones. It costs around £53
You probably won't get a great result if you have a rescue from Europe but most people are satisfied with the answers they get.

He's lovely! Collie.

Blueskytoday · 29/04/2015 20:17

His legs look quite long , maybe lurched ish, he is lovely

GobblersKnob · 30/04/2015 07:25

Tbh he looks very Stafford to me, might not be crossed with anything, my pedigree Stafford had almost identical markings, very common. His ears are softer and not to standard, but Staffords are one of the most overbred/back yard bred breeds in the country. That's what my money would be on.

He looks totally gorgeous, regardless of parentage, he has a beautiful face :)

SewingAndCakes · 30/04/2015 07:31

Definitely some collie in there. This is our "collie" when she was a puppy who I think has some other breed in there somewhere!

He doesn't look very Collie-ish to me, but then Collies aren't a pure breed either, lots of variations. He looks mostly Staffish to me, although perhaps a bit light built.

My dog is also a rescue and when we picked him up we were told that although they knew his mum's breed, they had no idea for the dad, and were thinking anything from Rottweiler to Terrier! As it turns out he looks nothing like his mum (mostly American Water Spaniel, so dark brown very curly hair), and mostly like a small lab. I've often thought about a DNA test, but just for curiosity really.
