Crate training a older dog, can it be done?

My little dog is 4 and isn't left in by himself very often, I'm in all day and if I go out and I can I'll take him with me, and at night when I'm at work dh has him and again he goes everywhere with him!

The problem is when we can't take him out with us he's a nightmare to stay in the house he actually flys for the door every time it's opened and if he gets out he's off he's even went on a bus before! We only have this problem if we go out and he knows we're going!

I'm wondering if I should put him in a crate?

Yes you usually can, you do need to be careful not to move too fast with it though.
