Aggressive Maltese with other dogs outside of the home

My dog is a Maltese dog aged 9 months lovely dog in all ways bar agression to other dogs out of the home. If a dog comes to our house he is fine but out for a walk, in town , at friends houses with dogs he barks, snaps and is very defensive. What should I do more puppy training ? Keep on taking him for walks regardless of his barking ? Please help

If he is fine in his home it sounds like a fear reaction. has he had a bad experience out of the home with another dog?

How are you reacting when you meet another dog at the moment? If you are feeling anxious yourself (which would be totally understandable!) he will pick up on that and will react accordingly.

Is he the same off-lead and on-lead? Are you keeping him on lead (I'm guessing yes if he's reactive).

I'm in the camp that all dogs should be trained throughout their lives anyway, but if he's reactive he might not do well in a class environment. It might be worth contacting some reputable behaviourists for advice. Can you say roughly where you are in case anybody has recomendations?
