Doggy poo habits

I'm not the dog poo troll, I promise.

I'm always intrigued by the threads where people say they dodge a lot of dog poo on the pavements. I only see the occasional turd where I live and it's not a particularly salubrious area.

Anyway, my point is that wayfaringdog would no sooner poop on the pavement than I would in the kitchen. Grass is his only toilet. Is he strange? I've never owned a dog before but just assumed that they prefer grass for scenting.

I think it's what they get used to when they're very little. Dpup had already been trained to wee and poo on grass while he was still with his breeder and has never poo'd on the pavement - he also won't poo when he's on the lead which causes issues when you're staying in a holiday cottage with a decked garden ... I never realised dogs could hold on for so long ...

weaselwords · 26/02/2015 07:25

I have one who will only poo off lead on grass and one who seems to prefer pavements...outside shops/schools/at traffic lights. Anywhere really inconvenient. He is shameless.

youbethemummylion · 26/02/2015 07:29

Out dog prefer grass but will poop on the pavement if desperate. I always always pick it up and I see a lot less dog poo around than when I was a child (late 80's/early 90s) when it was everywhere!

I'd never take my two for a pavement walk if they were due a poo, would rather avoid fumbling with bags, poo and leads with people trying to get past.
They're very predictable, once a day in the morning after 15 mins or so running around off lead.
They usually poo together, side by side Smile.

Our dog won't poo on the pavement unless he really, really has to. He likes to be in the park, on grass and we always pick it up.

If he stays with PIL their dog will poo in garden but not ours! He insists on a proper walk before he'll do it, creature of habit Grin

Fatstacks · 26/02/2015 09:26

My younger bitch refuses even to wee outside her garden.
She scurries back from a walk to do it Confused

The older one likes an audience and saves it up. He does an odd tripod manoeuvre to really get purchase. Blush

Skivvywoman · 26/02/2015 10:07

My one will only poo on grass first thing in morning would only poo on pavement if he was desperate

At tea time when he goes to the park he runs away for a bit privacy to poo Grin

SukieTuesday · 26/02/2015 10:16

I assume the dogs that poo on the pavement are dogs that usually get walked on pavements away from any grass.

TheHappinessTrap · 26/02/2015 18:28

Ours have only gone on pavement when they were right next to grass and sniffing that. But they will only go near places they've gone before so it's fairly predictable!

Floralnomad · 26/02/2015 19:34

When out for a walk my dog will only poo on grass / dirt which is bizarre because in our garden he only has access to the patio and he poos on that with no issues ( if his walks don't coincide with his need to poo) .

My 16 week old lab is used to toiling on concrete in the back garden. It took a while before she'd poo in the park (prior to that anxiety made her poo in the car - now cured). Now she'll poo while crossing a road. I think she's still reluctant to toilet away from the garden concrete, so much so that she'll only go when she absolutely HAS TO GO NOW!!!!

WayfaringStranger · 27/02/2015 19:48

Just because I posted this, today wayfaringdog did a crap right on the pavement, as we were walking past Waitrose. Oh the shame!
