1 year old dog pooing in night

Hi- some Advice please
We ve had our gorgeous rescue spaniel for about 3 months now- he's approx a year old!
From the day he arrived he never had any accidents in the house!
All of a sudden- he needs to poo in the night- no change in diet etc- and he doesn't bark so we don't know he wants to go out- not ideal in any event to be getting up in the middle of the night to let him out!
We do all the usual- he had plenty of walks and goes in garden before bed time-
Also last meal at 4pm.
Any ideas on what we can do to solve?
Many thanks

Has something frightened him? As it is a sudden change I wonder if he got into a panic about something and now is anxious at night? Is he crated or roaming free?

Just thought that possibly his last meal is too early, so it goes through him and he needs to poo about 12 hours later, whereas if he had an evening meal he would poo in the morning when you first let him out perhaps. My dog is the same age and she has her evening meal between 7 and 8pm, she usually goes out and poos in the morning.

Thanks for response!
He isn't crated- he's roaming around!
Get your point re evening meal being early- he does another poo in the morning though at about 8- May try giving to him later- just struggling to understand what changed- as didn't do the poo at night before.
Don't think anything scared him but this did all start when he got poorly with the runs a couple of weeks ago£

Maybe his gut is still a bit upset and not quite back to normal yet. Add a probiotic for dogs to his food, that might help get things back on form. And try giving the last meal later. Has his diet changed at all?
