Older female dog, recent surgery and behavioural changes

Hello everyone, I wrote here a month ago and received some invaluable advice about my 10yo Staffie who turned out to have pyometra.

She had surgery and it was touch-and-go for a couple of weeks, but she's pulled through.
However, she has started acting a little weirdly: she keeps raking at my clothes amd shoes (if they're on the floor) and sleeping on them It's done in an erratic manner, but it seems to settle her, eventually.

I love her to pieces but this is unacceptable to me! Why might she be doing this? How can I otherwise reassure her?

She may have a false pregnancy. Can you check to see if she's producing milk? If this persists you should take her back to the vet.

I'll try and check to see if there's any milk. I don't understand how this could be a false pregnancy - is it related to hormone levels after the pyo surgery?

My staffie had a false pregnancy after spaying, she had been heavily bred and her body was used to being pregnant, she was a rescue and we got her a few weeks after she was spayed, we were told not to let her hoard toys etc and to take anything away that she came attached too, after the hormones left her body and her milk eventually dried up she never mothered any more toys.

Bitches can occasionally have slightly out of kilter hormones after spaying and sometimes their body will think it is pregnant. It can be treated if necessary.

Thank-you both for answering She is hoarding toys as well as the raking and is generally more protective of my two dds. I will keep an eye on her and remove objects she's hoarding/distract her if I can.

It's been a bit of a roller coaster as the recovery from the surgery wasn't straightforward: she ruptured her stitches and had a heavy bleed about 8 days post-op.

To be honest, every day feels like extra time with my little baby dog.
