Gorgeous 6 year old boxer boy having operation in the morning

I'm so worried about him. He has a hard lump the size of a tennis ball seemingly attached to his ribs that has grown rapidly over the last few weeks. He has had a mast cell tumour removed from his ear three years ago too which had some malignant cells.

Just before this lump appeared I took him to the vets as he was drinking an excessive amount of water. Blood tests showed nothing out of the ordinary, but the lump has appeared since then, like I say. His water habit has calmed right down too.

Anyway, I am rambling I know, but I love my handsome, ultra cuddly, fantastic with my children dog and I am worried he has something really serious going on.

The lump couldn't be aspirated - the vet tried for ages with no success whatsoever, so rather than him having an op to biopsy then one again to remove we are going straight for lumpectomy.

Has anyone got any positive stories of sinister seeming lumps being completely benign? I'm worried as he will have to have sections of rib removed too. My poor baby.

Poor love. You just never can tell with lumps. Sometimes even the most innocent looking ones turn out to be malignant, and vice versa.

Hope you had as much luck with your lump as we had with ours today . Took my DMs elderly JRTx to the vet as he had a small lump in his neck near his jaw . Vet says let's stick a needle in it to see if we can see what we are dealing with , in goes the needle ,out comes a load of tea coloured ,odourless liquid ,dog no longer has a lump - hopefully it won't refill . Great result as we had been planning to have it removed and were very concerned about ddog having an anaesthetic as he is elderly and rather portly .

We are still waiting to find out what is wrong with our boy. The vet that performed the surgery (different one to the one who originally consulted), said he wouldn't remove the lump as it seemed so attached and he wouldn't be able to do that kind of surgery just like that; he opted to xray and biopsy instead. The xray showed the lump isn't actually attached but they are really none the wiser until they get the results. Hopefully we will have a positive plan of action come Friday.

I feel relieved that there is still a possibilty that he might be ok.
