Takes me back, I took on an 18 month westie as a rescue years ago.
She sure was a baptism of fire as a first rescue dog but I loved her and tolerated her infuriating (at times) foibles. She lived to a ripe age.
I hope you have many years of fun!

Our rescue working cocker did a wee indoors when we first got her home - it was pure nerves, as she's never done it since. Handily, she was pretty awesomely trained when we took her on ( though we've been doing our best to untrain her, since! I remember to start with she would not move around in the house unless we told her where to move to! It is not thus now).

Lovelydiskfish . She was found as a stray. That's all we know.

She has done a few wees inside but mainly on the way to outside. What cleaner do you recommend for the floor? Someone posted that we need to be careful or it will smell of amino and might encourage her to wee in the same place again.

Simple solutions spray (can get it from pets at home) or non-bio detergent - you need to break down the enzymes otherwise it will still smell of wee to her even though you can't smell anything

Was she dry overnight? pet shops do stuff that cleans and breaks down the ammonia and I think I read that biological washing powder does as well .

Floral. She was dry overnight, so obviously can do it. I think most of it's excitement and nerves, though any advice gratefully accepted.

Oh she's lovely, I'm sure you will have lots of fun. We've had Eric almost six months now and it is lovely having a dog in the family.

I think her being dry overnight is a great plus point as she obviously has the ability to hold on and has probably been house trained at some time - you would be amazed how many people have poorly house trained dogs and just live with it .

How are you getting on? Can I ask which rescue you used as we are seriously considering a rescue westie and would appreciate any advice. Thanks

Goalie mum, we used www.terrierrescue.co.uk as they happened to have a westie, but also spoke to
www.westhighlandterrierrescue.co.uk who told us they often have websites who need homes, terrier rescue do all sorts of terriers and just happened to have a westie available.

We are getting on brilliantly. The only poo incident was on the first day, very neatly on the front door mat, totally our fault as we clearly didn't take her out at the right time. She has only weed once in our house today, caught her, said "no" and took her outside.

I am not counting the big one in pets at home , they were great about it! Or the ones in the loft extension, new area to her and with strangers (builders) in, she seems to wee inside when stressed and I took the boys out today (she was home with DH) and I think she was just so relieved we came back.

She is lovely. I fall for her more every day. Brilliant with DSs, really gentle with them, always happy to run after a ball, and currently snoring on the sofa.

I am also really glad we didn't get a puppy. She is still really active and quite puppyish on occasion but also calm and gentle, and so sweet.

So she's the lovely Rosie - I've been watching her and Whitney for a while, wishing we had space. I'm so happy for her, and for you.
