What would one do with a doggy wheelchair?

MIL is clearing out a deceased ladies house and has come across a brand new looking doggy wheelchair in a garage. DP thinks the dog it was for was a Lab. She says it's in such good condition that it would be a shame to chuck it in the skip so wants to know what can be done with it, if anyone can advise please?

A doggy wheelchair? Like a stroller or for a dog with legs that don't work?

TheCunnyFunt · 12/08/2014 20:33

The kind for a dog with legs that don't work. You harness the dog into it apparently. DP thinks the dog had something wrong with its hips so it had this wheelchair thing (do they have a proper name...?) which looks like it was barely used.

Take it to Battersea or your local dog rescue?

TheCunnyFunt · 12/08/2014 21:00

We're in Lincolnshire so Battersea is a bit too far away :o

I'm don't know of any local dog rescues apart from Lincolnshire Greyhound Trust where my dog came from and they never get disabled dogs in.

This is going to take some googling isn't it?

Is there a local physio or hydro centre who might be able to match it to a dog?

TheCunnyFunt · 12/08/2014 21:55

I don't know Blush I've never needed anything like that so haven't a clue what kind of things are available round here.

Ooh we're at the vets soon so I can ask about that then!

I used one for a GSD with DM, it was great and gave him another 3 months of walks. The problem is that they are usually made to measure. Try FB for groups with disabled dogs, someone may need one for those dimensions and may be willing to pay package and posting costs. The wheelchairs are quite expensive, 300-500 pounds for the well made ones, and it does seem a shame to chuck it.

Ring lincolnshire rescue kennels at Ingham and ask them.
