Five month old in habit of going out to wee very frequently still

My almost five month old puppy was taken out a lot in his early weeks with us as I was paranoid about accidents but now he still seems to expect to go out every 30 mins to an hour.
This seems like a lot. When we are out he can hold it for up to 3 hours (we did this once but have only normally left him for about 2.5 hrs a few times), and overnight manages 7.5hours. So he can do it but is in a habit of going and weeing loads.

How can we get him to go a bit longer in the day when we are in? As soon as he goes to the door I always let him out. Should I make him wait if he has wee'd recently?

My youngest took a while to grow out of this habit but he did gradually start choosing to hold it longer. Now (nearly 2 years old) I will sometimes turf him out because he hasn't been for hours and it's like Niagara!

Yes like Niagara just now after he was asleep for 1.5 hours and then started barking to be out of the crate so he could go out. He is like a wee machine.

Yes I had a wee machine. Even our trainer couldn't quite believe the volume of wee that could come out of such a tiny puppy.
