So many dear rescue dogs [sad face]

Thinking about (maybe) (persuading DH) to get another dog

Found the perfect [rescue] dog, got seriously excited for a couple of hours, but she was already taken. Probably for the best, as we can't really afford a second dog.

But - a bottle of wine later - and I'm googling the dogshome and rspca and the stories are breaking my heart Sad

One who was left tied up outside the home at 2am

And so many staffies! I don't like staffies, personally - probably for all the stereotyped reasons, the clichés - but the obvious link between the number of them and their reasons for being given up, makes me so angry.

oh and there was one, a Shit-Zhu - Poodle cross I think, and it said she had been used for breeding and wasn't used to experiences like "walking on grass" Shock Angry

Can't do much about it, except have another glass of wine

Oh god I know what you mean.

I've never been a dog person, but DH convinced me to adopt a dog as soon as we got to the shelter it became 2 and now I'm on all the UAE rescue society pages and regularly cry reading their stories

I have a rescue staffy. It was my ex partners (daughters dad's) dog. He is lovely soft as muck but he's getting old :(. I always check the site he was put in kennels on Friday back home with me Monday.

The kennels were really pleased as they probably wouldn't of been able to rehome him, they get far too many. It always makes me cry they just get brought up by the wrong people and a bad reputation.

I have to stop myself reading rescue websites. It's heartbreaking but we can't have another dog. Will be volunteering soon so hope to make a tiny difference that way.

I regularly upset myself by going on the websites. It's just not feasible for us to have a dog right now, much as we would both adore one and it would be good for us. Unfortunately both of us work full time and we don't have the time to commit to training and socialising.

I went on the Many Tears site when we already had 2 dogs and couldn't possibly afford or find time for another one.

We now have 4 dogs Grin

I think I might foster in the future as that at least helps get them out of kennels, making space in the kennels for more. It's so sad and my new two are very damaged but doing really well. It's so rewarding. If I had the space and money I'd have loads! Having said that, more than 4 and I'd struggle to give them each enough attention. It's only really possible now because there are 4 adults (well, nearly, youngest DD is almost 15,, oldest 18) in the house.

I have 4 dogs now, two of them rescues and have had rescues in the past, I can't look at the websites now because I really couldn't cope with another dog :(

I couldn't with mine not liking other dogs. I was thinking of fostering when the time comes as I'm a SAHM with a big garden but I'm realistically going to have two children under 5 by then.

Can't imagine my house without a dog now.

I'd have a second dog in a heartbeat but we are in rented and could only get permission for one. Otherwise i'd have a housefull!

"Oldies club" is the one that makes me cry the most ( My Staffie came from there) Such lovely well trained dogs who struggle to find homes because they are 8 or older. We have had two elderly staffies now and they have been a real joy to own.

My neighbours used to adopt the old boys (and girls) so they had a loving home to die in. Hats off to them , I don't think I could do that!

We have a staffie and a rescue Lab x, I have to say the staffie is a dream to have around, she sleeps a lot, has great personality and is great with the dd's, the lab x is crazy, hard work, wants walking all the time and jumps up at the dd's (I would swap him for a staffie).

There are a lot of dogs in need of homes, a lot of them are staffie and staffie crosses, they are fab dogs Smile.

I would love another I think my thinking is you don't know what kind of life they have had.

I know all dogs can turn but obviously staffys are stronger than a jack Russell.

Agree about labs my mams got two (out of six) and they are crackers.

I always remember my oldest sticking her finger up his bum when she was little he just wagged his tail Grin
