Post comes when I'm at work and the ewok started habit of chewing it don't really want to drill holes into upvc door for a cage plus it'll stop door from opening fully so wondered about this

Watching with interest, as of yesterday 9 month old lab doing the same. Had to piece together the remnants of 5 letters yesterday.

Mine was a cheque for charity instead of flowers for fil funeral last week. The upvc door is moulded in a way that would make a letter cage difficult plus won't be able to open door properly. If no one post I think I'll have to go down the outside postbox route

It looks like Amazon sells them - the 3 reviews look good.

How about another to post whilst you command 'LEAVE'. Then give a tasty reward each timethe dog complies. Start on a lead first and yank quickly...then without.

Good idea lettuce but still want to buy something as well feel like I'm on borrowed time before she destroys something important

Don't yank on the lead, you could cause an injury. Just use distraction, high value treats/toy, praise when she leaves it.

My brothers dogs chewed his post so he taped a carrier bag to the door around the letterbox :o

We tried a mail sack, no use at all. Dog just grabbed it instead then pulled it right off the door. Our mail can come at any random time between 8am and 4pm, and the postman always seems to manage to come during the 30 minutes when I've had to go out!

MadOldFeminist · 20/01/2014 22:55

Ours doesn't chew it once it's actually inside though - what she tries to do is grab it as it comes into the house - as soon as it hits the floor, she loses interest. It's the one thing we've just not managed to train out of her - she came to use at just under a year, having lived in an outside kennel till then - we think she was fed by someone opening a door flap and shoving food in, so the letterbox is an ongoing source of excitement and angst for her. She never believes that whatever treat we are offering will be better than what might come through the door. She knows 'leave' 'drop' 'down' etc in every other context, but she just can't seem to get it for this one thing.
