My dogs hair cut made me weep.

I'm due a baby on the 21st so I admit this might be an over reaction Wink.

Picked my dog up from the groomers today, new groomer because my usual one doesn't have any space before Xmas and I wanted him trimmed and cleaned before baby. Told her what I wanted. Trim/undercoat/feathers tidied/ears and feet tidied.
He is a 3 year old cav who has/had lovely long ears. He had to wear a vet cone for 10 days and behind his ears were knotted so I had asked for her to pay special attention to that.

What's the worse that could happen? Surely nothing? I had no doubt in my mind that he wouldn't look normal.

3 hours later I picked him up. He is SHAVED short all over. He is shaved like proper gundog clip. Like a working cocker. Or shorter- they still have their ears! He has no ears, they are like a Labrador puppy's lugs. There are razor marks all over his coat. Lines where she's shaved.

Then she said 'I didn't take him too short because I didn't want to take his wee personality away'. Oh my.

Not a real problem I know, he doesn't care at all, didn't even mind a walk in the rain, and it is certainly cleaner than his long feathers, but still!! Lol.

You have my every sympathy, because some loon did exactly the same thing to my Springer, shaved as well with lines on her face, she came out looking more like a pointer, save for the totally ridiculous feathering she'd left under her belly. I also burst into tears (was about 22 wks pg at the time) and earnt a Hmm & Confused from DP.

Aside from the fact that she did not look like my dog, she was a bit traumatised by the whole thing and didn't wag her tail for 3 days Sad I do any trimming myself now!

Ooh YANBU.
Someone cut my old lady cav like that a few years ago.
"made her look just like a pup again!" she said.
Sad

Pandemoniaa · 16/12/2013 19:28

Someone did this to my old cocker spaniel. He went in somewhat longer than ideal but looking lovely nonetheless. He came out look like a shorn lamb and nothing at all like a dog. Even his expression was sheepish.

PrammyMammy · 16/12/2013 19:35

Ohh i wonder if they teach them how to cut each breed of spaniel or if they just sheer them all. Lol.

I've had the 'Ohh he looks like a puppy' comment from everyone. Hmm

How long does it take to grow back in?

It would be even worse on an old lady cav who's looked regal all her years then one day bald.

Did you say anything? Shock
I would have screamed blue murder!

ethelb · 16/12/2013 19:58

Our irish terrier used to come back so closely shaved he looked wierdly camp. It just wasnt him. I feel your pain. It will grow back quite fast though.

PrammyMammy · 16/12/2013 20:10

I just said something like 'oh he will be freezing now, good job there's a coat in the car'
I couldn't risk a breakdown in the shop and hair grows after all.

rosebudandvodka · 16/12/2013 20:17

Hmm. It does grow yes, but you didn't ask for a shave.
You are right to choose your battles and I respect that you didn't kick off. But hell fire I would have!

PrammyMammy · 16/12/2013 20:44

I thought I was being pregnant/hormonal to be honest, until my dh seen him when we got up the road.
Bad times.
I put a photo on facebook, and have had several people say that groomer is no good. Now I know. Hmm

Ah poor boy.

Never mind. He's still your lovely dog and his hair will grow.
Don't fret too much. Flowers
Just don't ever go back Grin

Lettucesnow · 16/12/2013 20:56

You should go back and have a word with the manager and register your complaint. I think a refund is in order if the dog has been shaved instead of trimmed as requested. Lazy grooming if you ask me; it's quicker to shave than trim nicely using learned skills.

The groomer should have insurance and be affiliated to a code of ethics. Check this out too.
