Three dogs? That would be madness wouldn't it?? Someone slap me

I have two JRTs, i love them muchly - they are fab. Both DP and myself miss having a big dog around the place. DD wants a chihuahua (probably not going to happen!) I am so very dog broody - would like a young rescue dog and have seen the most adorable lab x on a rescue site. I have of course come up with all the reasons why we shouldn't but I have to say am sorely tempted... three is too many dogs isn't it? isn't it?

I have one on my lap, one on my feet and the other one is snoozing in her crate, oh and our temporary extra is snoring on a futon mattress. So I couldn't possibly comment!

I was at Discover Dogs on Sunday so I'm horribly broody (again) but 3 (and the occasional visitor) really is enough!

See thats the thing, i don't nkow how would actually accomodate third dog (we have space) but both the JRTs sleep in our bed with us I don't know i want a big dog in my bed, or even the bedroom but would feel mean if they can come in and the new dog couldn't

Well I have a lab, a pug and now my ED has bought a 9 week old Border collie! Chaos reigns! But it's lovely chaos!
None of them are allowed upstairs though! They are getting on ok at the moment- pecking order is being sorted!

We have a JR, Fox Hound and a bulldog all sleep in bed with me and hubby. So yes you need a third dog.

We have 3 dogs (used to be 4 but we lost one - a husky cross - last year to diabetes) all rescues, one small wire hair podengo who sleeps under the bed, one medium short hair podengo who sleeps on the bed, and one serra de estrela cross who sleeps by the side of the bed or just outside the bedroom, we also have 14 cats, one of whom also sleeps on the bed. Two of them are virtually blind and the serra de estrela cross is about 16/17 so they keep us pretty busy! I don't think one big and two small dogs is as bad as 3 big ones, and the lab cross would probably be happy to sleep under or beside the bed. Good luck!

No point asking me, we have four

Two are whippets so even though they're young they do bugger all except sleep most of the time with the odd mad five minutes interspersed throughout the day. Another is a geriatric and arthritic and he also does bugger all when he's not pretending to be dead to scare us The fourth is completely mad and lives in her own little world of sparkles and unicorns but she's also relatively chilled.

Most of the time you'd never guess we had four. We have feeding times streamlined to perfection, the walking is easy and generally it feels like a nice number to have

I met a podengo once, they are lovely. I thought they were quite big though? 14 cats??? my DP would leave

My friend has 5 dogs, 3 cats, 8 rabbits and a couple of other furries. The dogs have a second double bed of their own!

Another friend has 7 dogs (5 of which want to get in his bed, 3 usually win)

I used to have 2 (and will do again next year). I end up with DH in the spare, DD and Mutt (and Rott) in with me!

You cope, because you have to...(and because your friends think you are the crazy dog lady )

Podengos come in 3 sizes and smooth and rough coat, the medium is very leggy, a bit like a smaller greyhound, the little ones are slightly bigger than Jack Russells - they are great but can be a handful!! Our medium is lovely now he's 2 and a bit, but was a bit of a nightmare at times as a pup!!

Unfortunately we have a lot of street dogs and cats here, and we've collected the cats over the last 10 years - they don't all spend a lot of time indoors, and some we only see once or twice a day, if that! It's hard to turn away a tiny kitten.....

Everlong - i regularly walk 3 dogs as i walk my mums dog too, so not worried about that. But yes, the financial side of it is an issue - my dogs aren't insured as i used to work in a vets so used to get free treatment, now i just have to pay cost, but even cost can be £££ if its something major. Would probably insure a third. We hardly ever go away, usually take dogs with us but yes, tahts another consideration.

Swedish Fox Hound.....Hamiltonstavare. Taller but leaner than a Beagle. Just as much a nightmare.

You should probably consider third party insurance for all of your dogs - if they run into the road and cause an accident you would be liable for potentially thousands of pounds.

You also need a bigger bed to accomodate dog 3. We have a super king which is just right for me, DH and two labs. JRTs are very small and surely only count as one for bed allocation purposes?

I've had 4 dogs before, we just got a huge bed. And the JRT takes up the most space, he is immovable! I don't think it goes by physical size, it goes by size of character, so the GSD made himself tiny and the JRT takes up the whole bed.

We have recently gone from 2 to 3, adding a border terrier puppy to our 12yr old BT and 3yr old rescue BT. It has given the 3yr old a new lease of life, making her much more playful again, and it is lovely to watch. It is a bot more chaotic, in a good way. I also need to do separate training walks with the pup, and have had to brush up training with the 3yr old.
My old boy has become very loving to the pup, washing her face and keeping her in line.

I pondered over the new addition for ages, and then just went for it, wouldnt go back now.

We have a non-mover too and he has the annoying habit of popping open the duvet cover and getting inside the duvet, so not only is he stuck in the middle of the bed, he pulls the overs off too He will not move even if i bomb went off next to his head. The other one will hop off the bed if we so much as move. and then jump back on in the middle of the night when im asleep

13 stone I thought my rottie was huge at 10 stone!!! you are, quite clearly, mad How do you manage to walk them all?

The irony being I put this bloody facebook page on because DD wanted a chihuahua now i can see us ending up with another big dog, so this 3 could very easily count as 4. You would think little dogs wouldn't count as 1, but my terriers are much more trouble than the rotts ever were!

We have 5 collies and an Ewok (cavalier spaniel x German spitz), so I can't possibly comment on the common sense of 3 dogs... the questions you should ask yourself are a) can you afford 3 dogs, b) can you give to all of them equally emotionally and c) can you meet all of their needs adequately? Only you can decide that. Good luck on your new family member.
