Teaching dog to walk on pavement

I have adopted a lovely 1 year old small dog. She is practically perfect. She can be a bit daft on the lead when we walk round the streets and will just dive off the pavement on to the road. Any idea how to teach a bit of road sense?

Bumping and watching with interest as I've adopted a stunning but psychotic red BC with a penchant for herding cars Hmm

YouTube Kikopup and look for Loose Leash Walking (LLW) Smile

Jessica you'd be better off looking for 'look at that' (LAT) with your collie Smile

JessicaRRRabbit · 13/09/2013 15:33

Thanks Lil. Don't suppose you could do a link to that video could you? I searched for kikopup LAT/Look at That to no avail...

Give me a min.

Lilcamper · 13/09/2013 16:52

Sorry, still searching but a good book for you would be 'Control Unleashed' by Leslie McDevitt (smile)

Lilcamper · 13/09/2013 16:58

This is a good example but in your case it would be looking at traffic far enough away your dog doesn't go mental (over threshold)...

JessicaRRRabbit · 13/09/2013 16:59

Oh that does look good - thanks for the recommendation. I'll need to put it on next month's pup budget as I've just invested in a new Gentle Leader and rope lead combo so I don't get pulled/hands burned so much! For a little BC she is amazingly strong Grin
