We went to view a litter of cocker spaniel puppies at the weekend, intending to be objective, maybe go see a few more puppies before deciding...10 minutes later we were handing over a deposit for a beautiful 5 week old blue roan boy Grin

He's only 5 weeks old, and I'm not sure how I'll get through the next 3 weeks without exploding with excitement. I've put a pic of him on my profile.

Ah, the 'just going for a look' scenario. I have two dogs as a result of that Grin I love blue roan's, I think they're gorgeous. Have you got a name yet? :)

TooManyButtons · 30/07/2013 09:54

We've not decided on a aname yet; he was going to be Dave but I'm not sure that suits him...Gavin is the current favourite Grin.

Grin Gavin would be an awesome name! 'Oi! Gavin! Get 'ere!' Grin

So, er, do you know what you're letting yourself in for?

TooManyButtons · 30/07/2013 10:00

Ha I've done plenty of looking at cute puppies research, I know I'm going to have a, erm, challenging time for the next few months (years?)...he's a show type rather than a working cocker which I've been assured aren't usually as bonkers...

Lol Chickens voice of experience, eh?!

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 30/07/2013 10:02

I love spaniels, but they are a...unique breed Grin

DalekInAFestiveJumper · 30/07/2013 10:03

Oh, the spots! What a sweet little guy!

Good luck on the waiting to bring the cuteness home. Maybe the breeder will send update photos?

But yeah, one of my Mom's better bits of wisdom. "You can't comparison shop for puppies."

Heifer · 30/07/2013 10:07

congratulations, we have also bought a puppy, a springer spaniel puppy who is 4 weeks old so have a week longer to wait than you. Have you had a spaniel before? They are fantastic dogs, although can be mad as a box of frogs grin.

Heifer · 30/07/2013 10:09

oh haven't posted for a while and didn't get that Grin right

cocolepew · 30/07/2013 10:14

How cute! I have a lab/cocker cross and she really is the best natured dog I've ever had. Everyone expected her to be totally bonkers but she isn't most of the time.

TooManyButtons · 30/07/2013 10:31

Dalrk It was the spots that made me fall in love with him, and his slightly silly looking pure white tail that didn't stop wagging Grin.

I've not had a spaniel before, two of my colleagues have sprockers and are barely containing their glee as they regale their tales of spaniel naughtiness!

Awww he's gorgeous Grin
I have a bonkers cocker (working type), they are the most loving loyal dogs ever. Mine is my shadow, and even if i go for a wee welcomes me back like a long lost friend Grin

TooManyButtons · 30/07/2013 11:21

Aw see that's what I want from a dog! I've got an untrainable Yorkie who couldn't really care less if I was dead or alive, and pees on my pillow the moment my back's turned...I've booked the pup into training classes already Grin

I went to look at a litter of lab pups - just looking mind!

Fast forward a year - oh look at that lovely lab snoozing in the sitting room curled up all cute and lovely.

I luffs my dog and have never been so glad we went to 'look'.

Vibbe · 30/07/2013 22:24

Awww, he's lovely! Congrats!

Cockers are amazing dogs, we have a blue roan (from show lines) too. She's 2 years old and so good. Chilled at home, easy to train and happy around other people and other dogs. And she never barks.
My parents have a working spaniel, and they've been dog sitting our dog. They were surprised how easy our dog is compared to theirs.

Both of them are velcro dogs, but that's perfectly fine Smile

pigsDOfly · 31/07/2013 00:37

Ooh he's lovely. How exciting. Will you be able to visit him again before you bring him home?

The first time I saw my gorgeous little girl she was 3 days old and because we knew the breeder and she was nearby I was able to visit loads.

She's my first ever dog and I'll never forget the mix of fear and excitement I felt when I first brought her home; 2 years later and I can't imagine life without her.
