My doggie is being PTS tomorrow.

Just need to know I am doing the right thing really, my dog is 11 years old and has wobblers syndrome, she has no claws left and they are infected. She falls over all the time and fell from top to bottom of the stairs yesterday. She is losing her sight and is incontinent overnight on her bed, I am not incredibly rich and cannot afford to spend any more money on her treatment, I need to know I am doing the right thing, she is in a lot of pain with her infected claws.

You are absolutely doing the right thing. If you had all the money in the world, sadly you couldn't take away her pain. It is a brave and incredibly kind thing you are doing for her. Better a month too early than a day too late. Sending you strength, the loss is so hard, but letting her go is the most important act of love.

Part of the responsibility of owning a dog is stepping in and making sure that the end of their life isn't long, drawn out and is as comfortable as possible.

It's the last thing you get to do for them and is absolutely the right thing in fact the only thing to do when their quality of life is being affected.

It's painful for you, but it's the best thing for your dog.

You poor thing, know how you feel. You're absolutely doing the right thing, though obviously it's hard to make that decision. I wish you well, and wish her a safe journey to the bridge. x

Is it something that could be fixed and give her a good quality of life if you did have the money?

I had to have my dog PTS and my cat as well (several years apart) but neither of them could be made any better than they had already been - it really was the last thing I could do for them.

If it is money stopping you being able to feel the same way - then maybe there is a way we could help?

No not just money, she will never get any better than this, the money thing is just about more X-rays and MRI things to see how it is progressing really. Thank you all so much for your hugs it really has helped me.

You are doing the right thing. When we love our pets and are responsible owners we have to make the difficult decision of when to say goodbye. As someone else has said better a day too early than too late. Its not fair to prolong the suffering. We had our much loved dog pts nearly 2 years ago. He had numerous things wrong and had been on medication for 2.5 yrs but he developed kidney failure and there was nothing that could be done. It was the right thing to do for him, but so painful for us.
Hand holding for today OP, you are doing the best thing.

Just to add - hope the money thing isn't making you feel guilty. From what you've said, even if you were rich then it would still be kinder to let her go. You know when the time is right, and if she's always falling then it sounds like her time has come. It's all very well having scans etc. but it gets to the stage when it wouldn't affect the outcome. Big hugs, horrid day for you. x

Aww so sorry op. Our family dog had to be pts there recently. His hips had completely gone and my dad had tried everything but the poor thing was in so much pain, even with morphine shots.

You did the right thing and it's kinder than leaving them in extreme pain. How are you holding up now op?? The first few weeks after are so hard as you keep expecting them to be there when you walk through the door.

I'm sorry but I think you're doing the right thing. I lost my dog suddenly a short while ago and it is awful but you just have to try and remember that she's had a good and happy life with you.

I had to make the same decision a few months back.I been feeling sad about it tonight actually which led me to the doghouse.Its the hardest thing I ever did and I doubted myself for days after even though the vet said I was making the best decision.Loved my dog to bits but it had to be me that said i had to give him peace and I have never felt so torn in my life.They say that doubt is a normal emotion in grieving for them.I still cry for him and wish I could see him again.I actually wished they would say oh we made a mistake and hes here,how silly is that?When i see people with their dogs now I think how lucky they are.At the end of it all I loved him and he knew it and he loved me and thats what I hold on to.I wouldnt let him suffer because he deserved dignity and to be pain free.I know that shows my love x

I have had to make this decision today. My old boy is 11 and has hemangiosarcoma. He looked ok until last week except for losing some weight but this week it is a different story. I have an appointment at 10:30 Thursday morning to get him PTS and now I am worrying that I've left it too long. We have loved Him so much i can barely stand it.

On Sunday we had to send our beloved foster dog away because of BSL. We would have kept him if we could. I can't believe I will lose them both in the space of 5 days.
