7 month old uncrated dog poo and wee in the kitchen, help

we did cure this by having her in our room but she is now in season so yet again we are coming down to mess/smell in the kitchen.
I understand she does a poo after every meal and one extra, so where did that extra come from.
previously I would take her downstairs @ 6.15 am for a wee and a poo and it worked. but now we have put her back in kitchen, no problem from her going to bed, but how can we cure this mess?

people always suggest a crate.
it is too late now, to put her in a crate surely? she is 7 months

so this is when she is in the kitchen, night time and day time when we are out?

hmm, i have been offered one.
are you sure she will be ok to suddenly go into crate at 7 months, particularly now she is in season, wont that stress her?

You can't just shut her in a crate, no.

You can crate train her though.

can we move away from crates as the solution.

Take toilet training back to basics. Take her out after meals, after sleep after playing and inbetween, on her lead, stand outside til she does something, praise praise praise.

Well either somethings gone a bit awry with house training, she's unable to hold as long as you want her to or she's upset about being alone.

You could go back to basics with training as Lilcamper suggests and that's what the crate suggestion was about.

If it's a length of time thing then you could look at rejigging timings for meals and when she's getting out.

If she's upset about being alone then again a crate would help with that, but there are other ways of dealing with separation anxiety.

I spose she could be upset about being left alone?

quite difficult as I am not sure whether we can walk her currently, being in season. hmm

I may have misunderstood but are you saying that the dog usually sleeps in your room but that because she is in season you have left her in the kitchen overnight? If that is the case then the problem is probably that you have upset her sleeping arrangements . Also the thing about a poo a meal plus one is rubbish IME ( it may however work for others)

Yes, my crate training suggestion was toilet training related. And you mentioned crates in your title. Do you have a particular objection?

Are you planning on letting her sleep upstairs with you again post season ? My sister has a partially incontinent dog and she thinks that if she leaves the heater on in the kitchen overnight it is clean , if it is remotely cold she gets mess. Perhaps your kitchen is colder than your room. Or that could all be bunkum but it works for her .

Why is she suddenly being made to sleep alone in the kitchen again? If you're worried about season mess in the bedroom, then a friend o fmine with a leaky incontinent dog swears by these.

I mention crate to pre-empt anyone else from mentioning it really, because it always seems to be the cure all answer given.

so, aside from the crate, as she hasn't gone one. any recommendations?

What kind of dog is she? Are you in the uk? Surely not so cold that a healthy dog needs a hot water bottle?

The cold thing is probably ,as I said , bunkum but my sister is convinced that her dog makes mess because it wakes up chilly and if she leaves the heater on she either stays asleep or just doesn't mess for whatever reason . It seems to work ,just costs a fortune . Having said that they have a cold intolerant house cat so they have heating on 24/7 from about September to may so the dogs are used to a sub tropical climate.

Could she be eating too much? Presumably having less exercise so might not need so much food.
For many dogs the stimulation of regular walks/running about helps bowels evacuate properly. My lab always produces a bagfull after 15 mins mad dashing about off lead at the start of morning walk, same again in the evening and that's it for the day. Maybe you could try v active play sessions in the garden?
Also have you tried getting up earlier and taking her out before she poos/wees?

When our dog had her first season, she was acting strange - she was terribly whiny and did a wee and a poo on the floor. She was absolutely miserable.

I treated her as I would have while house training her, so just kept a constant eye on her, took her out after sleeping, eating and playing as well as when she looked like she needed a pee/poo.
