He's my first dog. I was raised to be scared of dogs and being badly bitten by one while young didn't help but over the years I learned to manage my fears and eventually came to want a dog of our own.
Thirteen years ago we became the owners of a black Lab/Collie X we called Smudge and he has been the most fantastic pet ever. Not only did he reward my trust but he taught DD's long term boyfriend to be unafraid of big dogs. DD's boyfriend was mauled so badly as a child he was put in PICU but Smudge seemed to know from the outset and has gradually built such a relationship that this man will now happily take him out for a walk alone.
I'm telling you in here because I hope other dog owners will get the love I feel for this stubborn, feisty, sensitive, calm, scatty old mutt of ours.
