Bleurgh. Dog blood reeks.

Giant pup had a dog play date this morning, and at some point during the mad meet and greet stage nicked the end if his tail, which I didn't notice at the time. Found a bit of blood in my arm and leggings, and although I've washed it off I still smell like a butchers. It's like the smell is inside my nose and mouth,
It's not my imagination is it, dog blood stinks?

Can't comment on the smell, I've never really noticed it, but I've seen tail injuries before. All I can say is 'good luck'.

Beware enclosed spaces... or, really, any time your dog is happy whilst within tail's distance of anything solid. With the two dogs I've known have tail wounds, every wag of the tail which hit a wall/cabinet/radiator would open the wound and spray blood. My mother's lab did it and the hallway of their house looked like the site of a massacre as that's where they would get their leads on before walk time, and the waggy tail just wouldn't stop!

We tried bandaging it; she chewed the bandage off. We tried pipe lagging, that lasted a bit longer, but she managed to remove it. We tried bandaging then taping a sock over the wound, but it didn't stick to her fur...

I htink it was only a tiny nick, he's licked it clean and there doesnt' seem to be any more bleeding now. BUt I've just had to wipe down the kitchen... and the back garden wall looks like a crime scene!

Ah, sounds like a lucky escape. Glad you've avoided the potential tail-wound-saga!

One of mine got her tail caught in a door frame last year, which took the end of her tail off. Even afterwards, she didn't stop wagging and there was blood everywhere. It looked awful! Even though she only caught about half a centimetre of her tail, she had to have about 2 inches amputated by the vet as there was bone sticking out, so the vet said it wouldn't heal properly otherwise.

We are very careful of doors and tails now!
