Days out with dogs and the DCs...

We have National Trust membership. And we're in the South East but we always holiday in the UK so all is fish to my net.

Help us add to our list of lovely things to do this summer.

Most national trust places allow dogs in the grounds, which can be nice for walks. I like taking mine to the beach too, there are still quite a number of year-round dog friendly beaches. Charity dog shows are fun and a good place to socialize your dog too.

I think, now we have the membership, we could just do the grounds. My worry is that once you want to go inside, the dogs can't just sit in the car, can they? Well, our boot is only just big enough for two greyhounds and they do get in a bit of a tangle.

Cotswold wildlife park seemed to allow dogs when we were there.

You see we're not cultured enough to bother going inside most NT places (and the boys get bored), so we just do the grounds and parks.

We also take our dogs for pub lunches as there are a surprising number of dog friendly pubs.

Our dogs also get taken on steam trains, vintage trams and cable cars. They apparently don't seem to mind.

Also worth googling to look for fun dog shows and walks in your area, as well as country fairs, steam rallies and similar shows, as they are great for dog socialisation and usually have something to entertain everyone in the family.

We love Virginia Water. There's a few hides holes for the children and also great for bikes or scooters. We take a picnic and make a day of it. The scenery is stunning.

Clumber Park is a National Trust place and fab for dogs and kids alike. Hundreds of acres of walks, you can walk around the lake and there are lots of idiosyncratic folly type structures to investigate along the way - you can camp there as well.

Just got the email about that and I'd love to. If I can find a willing adult to accompany me, two dogs and two DSs.

DH is working that weekend and an hour and a half drive there, followed by ALL DAY on my own with 4 over excited charges under the age of 6 makes me a bit worried. They'd all need to be on the lead. And probably muzzled too!

Critct tramway museum in Derbyshire allows dogs in.

Chatsworth house allows dogs in the grounds, not in the house though. But gardens are fab.

We tend to do lots of walking, geocaching, etc with the dog. Local forests, woods, beauty spots, trails, etc for walks.

I have never been to Derbyshire. Ever. Will add that to my weekends away dream list I think!

If you get up as far as Yorkshire then lots of lovely walks. Ingleton waterfalls walk, hardcastle crags, walks round wharfdale.....grassington area. Bolton abbey is lovely.
